Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha speaks Monday at the Government House in Bangkok.

BANGKOK — Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha opened fire on reporters Monday at Government House over their questions about a potentially toxic landfill in the Thai south that local officials say has been poisoning livestock and water supplies.

The junta leader said civil servants were at work “solving the problem” of the landfill located in Nakhon Si Thammarat, after residents filed a complaint Thursday with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment that it was sickening people and animals.

PM CALLS FOR GOVERNMENT RESEARCH INTO HOW OTHER COUNTRIES REGULATE JOURNALISTS

BANGKOK: -- ACCUSING THE media of failing on its promise of “self-control”, the government will study laws in different democratic countries to see how the media is regulated, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said yesterday.

He said authorities are particularly concerned over distortion of information in the media and the sector needed to be regulated, even in democratic countries.

“Let’s look at foreign countries that are democratic. Don’t just cite democracy and [say] you can’t control one another. I am seeing what countries have comparative laws. Don’t just say that they don’t have any,” he said.

If you don't like what the press are saying you may want to look at what you are doing. Most democracies have truth as a basis for reporting. Thailand has face as a basis for reporting unfortunately they are not always compatible. Most western politicians do not like the press and see the press as a "them", but they have a thick enough skin to take some criticism.

Prayuth would really not like what was reported if Thailand did not have the slander and libel laws. The media is there to try and keep those in charge at least a little honest. Can not really have too much whistle blowing here because of the lost of so called face.

OK now then,    plastic bottles here,  beer can's over there,   kitchen scraps for the chickens,  right, so now I'm qualified to ask the junta leader questions, right?  No wait a sec, I better ask my  fortune teller if it's ok first, then I'll research other democratic countries journalists and the rules they have to follow before they are ok to ask questions yeah?

Yo junta hugger's, you lovin this like the rest of the us?

I'd love to be there when he gets told how western democracies control the press.

"What do you mean they can say anything they want as long as it is true? This has got to be a joke! You're fired! Someone get me a researcher that tells me what I expect to hear!"

It's not a landfill, it's merely trash waiting to decompose.

(/Flood parable)

Theres no place for this type of rubbish journalism in thailand.  It stinks daring to criticise the government.

Wait until Prayut finds out how Western news media/blogs can report fake news without criminalization. That might be something Thai government-owned news media want to learn more about.

“Landfills are a problem everywhere, and in response you just protest about it. The easiest solution is to write a law so the government owns all the landfills. Local government is at work on it, why don’t you ask them?” Prayuth said. “You ask me to fix everything. The next time your toilet clogs, will you ask me to fix it too?”

Man seems obsessed with toilets at the moment...

In between mandated exercise sessions, no doubt.

He should just have said he has told the local government to do a better job or else. He is right he can't fix everything he just needs to delegate and this falls under the local government.

After learning to delegate he might go to a course where he is taught to handle the media better,  I don't think i have seen anyone handeling them worse.

He's got the Trump disdain for facts and opposition, including the Trump finger-point pose down pat. How do you say "fake news" in Thai, I wonder.

Once again the silly little general displays for the whole world to see just what an immature, petulant child he is.

Do try and post in adult mode. So all the trash, waste disposal and associated issues only happened since 2014? What exactly did those various Shin regimes, in power for most of this century do about it? Nothing, sweet FA. Apart from stick their mates in governor positions.

These are local government issues. So, quite rightly, why aren't the media leaning on the local governor, the local civil servants for what they're doing about it?

Maybe the lack of effective local administrations, the defamation laws, the lack of real investigative journalism and independent press?

Sometimes for sure. But, as we've seen in the West many media are now purely propaganda outlets for their owners' views; only present things they want to present rather than a full balanced picture; and present fake news and fake 'facts" when it suits with a generous amount of spin.

Imagine the words civil servants and working going hand in hand. Just wait till the government puts the media gag in place these foolish questions will stop.

Doesn't he talk trash, most of the times?

..oh...I see...same same- but different!

Oh, for sure, I agree with that.

However, in this case I think the PM is upset at the truth as much as anything else.

Oh I'm sorry, I was not aware you are everyone's editor.  "Do try and post in adult mode." Maybe it was over your head mate, I was being facetious/tongue in cheek/taking the p*ss as that is the level the junta leader replied to the reporters question's regarding the toxic waste, Why don't you have a crack at his ridicules comment to the questions asked instead of having a go t me?

Go on tell us what you really think about his reaction to the questions....

Do try to stay on topic, Thaksin has nothing to do with the post, but your go to line again as standard, weak/pathetic.

"What exactly did those various Shin regimes, in power for most of this century do about it?"

Please in your wisdom of all things in Thai politics tell us just who and years in total did the "Shin regime" have power for in the last century???   You making stuff up again???
