Revenue chief clarifies delay in tax returns

BANGKOK: -- The Revenue Department has advised working people to register for "Prompt Pay" service so that they could get tax returns faster in case they claim for tax returns.

The advice from the director-general of the Revenue Department Prasong Poontaneat came as there are increasing complaints of delays in tax returns to working people claiming the tax returns.

Prasong admitted of the delay in tax returns to those who did not register for the Prompt Pay service as officials apparently are giving priority to Prompt Pay as it allows for a more convenient reimbursement of tax returns while at the same time reducing paper work.

He stated that the department’s policy was not to force the public to register for Prompt Pay.

He said for those who do not wish to do so will still receive their tax returns by cheques, which will be mailed to them.

He said the department’s move was to ensure greater convenience and speed in making tax return payments because there will be no waiting period for cheques to arrive over the mail which will then have to be cashed.

Here comes the HS again. They want you to go cashless and are pushing it in every way. Used to get the refund in a week in past years amazing now its bottlenecked.

There is something unusual this year. My wife wanted to claim, what she forgot, for last year when she submitted this years claim.  They said 'can't do', we are completely snowed under so please come back after march.

There seemed to be the same staff/number there as in previous years, probably more actually.

I hope my money hasn't gone into the general tea fund:sad:

Lets hope some of these who do not pay tax register thinking they are due tax back, could be a way of catching a few

I completed tax form on 5 jan in Jomtien but didnt get any check yet - last year in CM it took 10 days before check was in mailbox ...  and same same info btw

first week of february, so it took about six weeks.  normally it takes about four weeks.  sorry TV cynics, but at least that part of the system here seems to work :(

To find the status of your return you can go to the revenue department's site here:

http://www.rd.go.th/publish/27942.0.html

you'll need to spell your name just as you did in your return and supply your 13 digit tax id (unless you are also a Thai national then you can use your Thai ID number).
