DSI to probe weapons cache seizure as a M16 assault rifle linked to terrorism case in 2010

 

 

BANGKOK: -- The Royal Thai Police will transfer the weapons seizure case at a house linked to Ko Tee to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to handle after one of assault rifles seized was linked to a terrorism case in 2010.

 

Justice Minister Suwaphan Tanyuwattana said the DSI chief has notified him of the transfer of the case from the police to the DSI after a M16 assault rifle seized during the police searching of places in seven provinces with link to Ko Tee was among the seized weapons.

 

The assault rifle was linked to a terrorism case in 2010, he said.

 

Meanwhile Deputy National Police Chief Srivara Rangsibrahmanakul said police have questioned the arrested nine men in connection with the arms seizure last week.

 

All confessed to be members of Ko Tee’s network and all firearms and ammunition were gathered by Ko Tee.

 

They were kept since the anti-government protest in 2010.

 

The weapons were moving into the house recently. Some of the seized weapons had been taken from soldiers during the violent red-shirt political rallies in mid-town Bangkok in 2010.

 

Pol Gen Srivara also denied the seizure was set up by the government as some of the weapons were not used by the armed forces or police.

Prawit says weapon seizure linked to Ko Tee not a set-up

 

 

BANGKOK: -- Deputy prime minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon yesterday dismissed as groundless a suggestion that the seizure of a weapon  cache from a house linked to Wuthipong Kochthammakun, alias Ko Tee, a hard-core red-shirt in Pathum Thani on Saturday, was a set-up.

 

Gen Prawit, also defence minister, said authorities have followed up the movement of the group for  a long time before making the search, and uncovered the assassination plot.

 

He assured that Ko Tee was the one who spoke about the assassination attempt and what were found and seized was not a setup as he alleged.

 

Gen Prawit insisted that he was unshaken by Ko Tee’s threat and urged the news media not to give him a high profile.

 

Ko Tee is a hardcore red-shirt leader who became notorious over clashes with the military.

How on earth do you link a regular assault rifle to a case. They must have got some high tech telescopic lens to pick up the serial number of the rifle to make the connection. Or was it that the rifle was lost by a regular soldier at the 2010 scene and now use as a convenient smoking gun.      

I can not verify this  information personally but I am sure there are still weapons circulating that were used during those events and being passed around by those people and groups who were involved in incidents at that time in Bangkok.

Beyond that I have no info, but a M-16 does have serial numbers on it, and presumably it can be traced.

I clearly  remember news photos taken by a foreign news man and shown on a foreign news network of a Red Shirt supporter carrying and displaying an  M-16 outside one of buildings surrounded by Red Shirt protesters in Bangkok at that time.

Beyond that, who can say now that long ago.

DSI to take over ‘Ko Tee’ weapons investigation

BANGKOK: -- The case concerning ongoing raids for weapons linked to red-shirt figure Wuthipong Kothhamakhun, or “Ko Tee”, will be transferred to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), said Justice Minister Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana on Tuesday.

 

But the security team conducting the raids will continue to search for weapons, he said.

 

The police probe will be transferred to a special DSI unit for two reasons, Suwaphan said, including the fact that among the weapons found at a Pathum Thani company linked to Ko Tee is an M-16 assault rifle which belonged to authorities before being stolen during the 2010 political uprising.

 

“The case is also related with terrorism,” he said.

 

Commenting on the possibility of Lao authorities extraditing Ko Tee back to Thailand, the minister only said the matter would be overseen by security officers.

Well if the DSI is taking over, the matter will never get resolved.

They are a bunch of useless clowns.

Here's a bunch that were taken and the returned during the riots.  Probably not all were returned.

Their own photo's give them away. These ammo boxes are brand new, there is hardly a scratch on them. Anyone that's ever served in an army will know ammo boxes looking like this just came out of a magazine/storeroom and have not been moved around for years. In Thailand's climate these boxes shows rust after a year or two yet these are pristine condition.

Hard to tell from that pic the condition of the boxes.  I've had boxes like this in the past and even after many years, they looked pristine.  Especially in a pic like this.

Quite correct, look at the copper on the shotgun cartridge It can no way be 7 years old and not a spec of dust on anything. Leave something made of any metals lying around for 7 years and they start to show there age.

How on earth have you never heard of ballistics testing?
