BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) announced yesterday that this year's celebration of Songkran festival on Khao San road will be organized for only 2 days on April 13 and 14.

Bangkok governor Pol Gen Asawin Kwanmuang said the Songkran festivities on the famed Khao San road will be organized for only 2 days on April 13 and 14.

Festivities will officially start at 2.00 pm in the afternoon each day and terminate at 8.00 pm at night.

He said authorities have also been ordered to make sure that water splashing activities does not encroach into central Ratchadamnoen or Sanam Luang field where the official mourning ceremony for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej is still being performed.

Tourists are also advised to enjoy Songkran on a Thai traditional way.

Earlier authorities issued five advice to play water on Khao San road. They are No powder, No waterguns, No alcohol, No sexy dresses, and No music.

Yesterday the BMA along with the cooperation of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and the Chana Songkram police station launched the Alcohol-Free Songkran campaign on Khao San road.

As a side post I have a friend who's just gone home to visit family in Hua Hin.

Apparently there's a "foam party" oraganised for tonight.. don't know which area.
Songkran starts early in the west, obviously the memo from Bkk didn't arrive?

so did anyone go to Khao San today?  how was it?

no music at all?  no shorts / tank tops allowed for girls (like Siam Square today, had to buy cloth to cover up)?

able to enjoy a beer at the restaurants while taking a break?  or is it no sale at all for the area?

thanks and I hope you had fun!
