Soldier killed after pagoda dance

Featured Replies

A military soldier died after he and his friends were set upon by a rival group when a fight broke out during a dance at a pagoda. Hai Sineth, 18, a soldier at military division 2 in Siem Reap province, died in the provincial hospital on Tuesday night after being taken there with multiple sword wounds.

District police chief Voeun Saravy said Mr. Sineth was among six men attacked by a much larger group in Banteay Srey district’s Khna Sanday commune. “We are still trying to establish the identities of those involved,” said Mr. Saravy. “We believe there were five other men with Mr. Sineth, none of them injured, and that the number in the rival group was about 15.”

Mr. Saravy traced the source of the dispute to a fight between the two groups on the pagoda dance floor earlier on. “They first clashed during the dance in the pagoda. The deadly attack took place when the dancing was over at around 11pm,” he said.
