Woman, 83, dies in Bangkok house fire
By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A fire raged through a two-storey house in Bangkok’s Taling Chan district on Thursday night, killing an 83-year-old partially paralysed woman and injuring her 87-year-old sister.

Pol Colonel Narong Pongsomboon, deputy inspector of Bang Sao Thong Police Station, said the house on Soi Bang Chuak Nang 7 in Bang Chuak Nang sub-district caught fire at around 9.30pm.

Fire engines took about half an hour to put the blaze out.

The body of Pikul Iamphadung was found lying face down on a patient bed on the first floor.

Her elder sister, Boonmak Iamphadung, was rushed to Siriraj Hospital after suffering burns on her arm.

A soi resident, Panya Watanasewee, told police that he smelled something burning while he was having dinner so he came out of the house to check and saw the blaze in the two sisters’ house. He alerted neighbours to help fight the blaze and called police.

Anek Yuchuakul, 58, another neighbour, said the two sisters lived alone in the house and they also took care of some 100 stray dogs and cats in the house compound. The deceased younger sister had become partially paralysed following a stroke three years ago, he added.
