Visa Run request by new employer

Featured Replies

Hello,

I recently cancelled my work permit and I've been told to leave the country on Monday. I have an offer from a new employer and I've been asked to do a visa run to Laos.

As an Indian national does anyone have tips and suggestions on how to go about it ?

My main questions are :

- what visa I should be applying for ?
- forms I need to fill up ?
- document list I'll have to provide if needed ?
- info on how to reach Laos like buses leaving from Bangkok etc.

Your help will be much appreciated.

Best,
A

I do not want to unduly alarm you, but my understanding is that Indian nationals can only get visas at the Thai consulate in Vientiane if they are Lao residents. If I am wrong, @ubonjoe should correct me in the morning. I am unsure, if you leave and reenter to get a visa on arrival, whether it is possible to do a change of status to a Non Immigrant B visa. My guess is you cannot, and your only option may be to return to India for the new visa. If I am correct so far, and you need some time to sort things out, you could apply for an extension of stay Monday and receive 7 days to leave the country when the extension is denied.

using an extension denial as an extension; i like that

You cannot get a visa in Vientiane or any nearby embassy or consulate. See: http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/upload/pdf/RestrictedCountries2013.pdf

You will need to return to India to get a visa.

Your only option to get more time may be to leave and re-enter the country to get a 15 day visa on arrival after paying a 1000 baht fee for it.

Fairly common strategy if you need a few days and don't qualify for an(other) extension.
