There would be no conversion if you already have a non-o visa.

You can apply for a extension of stay based upon retirement during the last 30 days fo the 90 day entry from the visa at Jomtien immigration.

Sounds good. I didn't want to have to travel to BKK to have it done. I've since phoned the Thai Embassy and have been told I can apply for either the Non O Visa or Retirement extension with the correct paper work before I leave.
