Amy's (frozen vegetarian dinners) are available in Thailand.

Featured Replies

Amy's is a company which makes delicious vegetarian and vegan frozen dinners that are sold at reasonable prices in the US (currently about $4 USD).

No additives/artifical color/preservatives.

Available in mass market stores such as Target and Wally World.

I just called the company  to ask about Asia, and was told they are sold (not the whole line but some)  in Thailand, the Philippines, and Japan.

I love Thai food and am expecting to be satisfied with street and restaurant food. But started wondering about backup possibilities, and I eat a lot of Amy's here in the US.

So vegetarians (and others who may come across these and want to try) may find this of interest.

Interestingly, the cs person read a few dinners sold there and mentioned their Pad Thai. This sounds like sending ice to the Arctic, but it is a  vegan version.

I find their Thai foods (Thai Green Curry, Thai Red Curry also) not among my favorites as I like spicy and not sweet foods and I feel they've made these more sweet than spicy.

4 dollars in the US should mean no more than 135 baht here.  If they try to sell it with the normal markup of 50% , they can forget me as a customer.

Does Big C carry French frozen dinners?

A tad optimistic with "50%".  At TOPS Mexican Casserole is 259 baht, Vegetable Pot Pie is 199 baht.  Full range at http://www.tops.co.th/search?q=amys&dept=&brand=&page=1

Wow! That's surprising. Don't see how they can sell for that price in the US, let alone Thailand.

Supermarkets have them at $5 but there are always some of them on sale every week for about $3.50 or less to $4.00 at those markets, and as mentioned the "super stores" like Walmart are $4. Target is $4 but often some or all on sale for less.

Right , 260 baht for a frozen dish , no thanks.

I know about some decent vegetarian restaurants in both Bangkok and Pattaya and you pay no more then 80-200 baht for freshly prepared food.

Not really.  Frozen stuffed pancakes.  Horrible, cardboard frozen pizzas.  Nothing else AFAIK - at least at my local Big C.  The fresh imported Casino stuff is a bit better, with a small range of edible charcuterie and cheeses.

Here in Pattaya there's only one I can really recommend and that's Fivestar J .

You can trust them , clean good food.

In Bangkok there's several , mostly Asian dishes . I recommend Tripadvisor to locate the nearest in your area.

I am sure I saw Amy's in Pattaya, probably Food land on Pattaya Klang, might have been Big C or probably more likely ws the place in the Avenue whose name escapes me.  I was surprised that the prices were not marked up that much.  Amys is s bit pricey in the USA, but my memory tells me they were not marked up that much in Thailand.
