Man on the run after brutal killing

Police in Svay Rieng province are hunting a 31-year-old farmer accused of murdering his wife in a jealous rage.   Song Sopheak, deputy chief of Svay Chroum district police, said So Kon had been out drinking rice wine with friends before he attacked 32-year-old Sok Sopheap on Thursday night.
 

After returning home at about 8.30pm, he argued with Ms Sopheap, accusing her of having an affair with another man in the village. “He cut her on the head with an axe several times,” Mr Sopheak said. “He then got a knife and slit her throat.”
 

After killing the victim, the suspect threw her body in a pond behind their house and fled. The couple had two children. The eldest, an eight-year-old girl, reported the crime to their neighbours, who called police.
