One killed, another injured as train hits pickup at level crossing
By The Nation

CHACHOENGSAO: -- A pickup truck was hit by an approaching train, killing a passenger and injuring another, after the driver apparently tried to circumvent a barrier at a railway crossing in Chachoengsao province.

Police said the accident occurred at 9.30pm at the railway crossing near the Don Si Non railway station in Tambon Nong Bua, Ban Pho district.

Police said the pickup driver managed to open the door and flee before the vehicle was hit. He also fled the scene.

The accident killed a Cambodian woman who was sitting behind the driver while a Cambodian man in the front passenger seat was severely injured.

An eyewitness, Kriengkrai Luangcharoenporn, 43, told police that when the pickup arrived at the crossing, the barrier had already been lowered to block the lane.

Kriengkrai, who lives at his grocery store on the opposite side of the road, said the driver tried to skirt around the barrier but the vehicle’s wheels got stuck on the tracks. Kriengkrai said he saw the driver open the door and narrowly escape before the vehicle was hit by the cargo train.

Another Thai idiot who thinks they can simply ignore warning barriers.

The driver fled.  Gee, what a surprise.

What an idiot and putting other lives at risk! Send the driver to prison for a year and we'll see these tragic accidents stop or maybe most of them. Stupid Thai's!

Usual level of Thai patience being displayed.

:coffee1:

More lemmings off the cliff.

The poor woman in thee back and the front passenger are the true victims. But Cambodian, so nothing will happen to driver because 'I'm Thai' thing.

Actually another report says there was an alternate crossing for maintenance directly adjacent and that had been used and had no barrier in place and that he was crossing there.  A confusing crossing at best; as alternate should have been blocked if not intended to be used.  Driver could have believed main crossing was still defective and he should use alternate.

Gee...Haven't had one of those in awhile....

Other lives at risk! Only Cambodians so nothing to worry about . . .
