RioMist
I am wondering if any of you guys have had any dealings with the Spanish Embassy in Bangkok. The first problem we have encountered with them is our marriage certificate. I am married to a Philippine National for the last 10 years and the Spanish Embassy want our marriage certificate legalized and reconsized by the UK Embassy in Bangkok. The UK Embassy cannot give this recondition and have stated only a court of law in England and Wales can do so. I have no idea how to go about getting a court of law in UK to do that but I imagine it will take a long time and I am here in Phuket. The thing is I understand the requirements the Spanish Embassy are asking for is illigal under EU Law but they will not accept this. They also want Police Clearance Certificate legalized by the Tha Ministry od Foreign Affairs. We have obtained this already along with medical certificates for my wife. We were hoping very much to start a new life in Spain having g lived in Thailand for 15 years but it's looking like our hopes are being dashed just because of the marriage certificate fiasco. If you have had similar problems would you please let me know and did you resolve them with the Embassy. Many thanks for any advice.

Where were you married? If the UK only the legalization of it by the legalization office in the UK should be needed. Donutz
Spain is sadly extremely notorious for this sort of nonsense and you will find a lot of forum members here and elsewhere on the web keep in running into this wall. You can contact the EU Ombudsman Solvit via the 'need help?' links at the bottom of this page: http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/entry-exit/non-eu-family/index_en.htm And you can share a compliant with the EU Commission/Home Affairs by sending an e-mail to: JUST-CITIZENSHIP {at} ec.europa.eu Related topics with some useful posts and experience: - https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/967204-applying-for-residence-in-spain-uk-citizen-married-to-a-thai-citizen/#comment-11589746- https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/980675-visa-for-spain-holiday/#comment-11837833-https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/980194-schengen-visa-spain/#comment-11829152 - https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/965728-nie-number-spain/#comment-11560630 - https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/984674-process-for-getting-my-thai-wife-spanish-residency/#comment-11928107 - https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/965728-nie-number-spain/ - etc. etc. etc.

We have a Philippine validated marriage certificate but this seems to cut no ice with Spanish Embassy.. They are also demanding police clearance legalized which we have now done but getting scammed at police station!
