Jonathan Fairfield
Culture for the rainy season The Tourism Authority of Thailand is introducing a new rainy season programme of more than 10 art and cultural festivals and activities for local and foreign travellers. For example, Ban Sapphraiwan in Phitsanulok invites coffee lovers to explore the world of Thai Arabica coffee beans in the Kaeng Song Coffee Sipping Festival that will coincide with the Khek River Rafting Festival from July 1 to October 31. After enjoying a caffeine boost, travellers can take to the river and enjoy the wild waters from Sapphraiwan village to Kaeng Song Waterfall. The country’s northeast region is hosting many traditional religious festivals to mark the Buddhist Lent throughout July. Nakhon Ratchasima will show off its craftsmanship in candle parades from July 7 to 10 while monks take to elephant-back in Surin province on July 7 and 8., Ubon Ratchathani province hosts its annual candle festival on July 8 and 9. Travellers can test their stamina by taking part in the Pattaya Marathon Competition on July 16, while Ranong province will celebrate its birthday on July 21 with plenty of fun activities. jaiyen
Why would anyone travel all the way to Phitsanulok for a cup of coffee ? Or to Surin to see monks on elephants ?? Really dragging the depths to try and appeal to tourists. Best thing in the rainy season is local trips and shopping. Thats what most tourists want to do. However for the younger people white water rafting is great, waterfalls are looking good and trekking isnt too hot. Off road bike riding is also good fun. Dont listen to crap from TAT. Belzybob
Rafting should prove popular with the zero dollar tourists.
