How long does it take to do a visa run from Bangkok to the border of Cambodja ?

if you get on a bus in front of Lumpini park on Rama 4 (across HSBC building) in the early morning between 4am to 6am, it should take about 3 hours to Poi Pet border.

Costs 200 baht round trip if you take the same bus back. If you wana go back to BKK earlier, you can get on another bus in Poi pet, but you'd have to spend another 200 baht from poi pet to bkk.(they won't let you pay one way 100 baht).

The bus in Lumpini will probably check your passport to see that you haven't overstayed, before letting you board.

There are police check points along the way, and they occasionally stop a bus and check passports of foreigners and stop it for a long time if one of the passengers has overstayed in thailand, and will probably arrest that overstaying foreigner.

I forgot to add... if you need a visa to enter Cambodia (some Southeast Asians don't need one), you need to bring about 1500 baht or so, to pay for the Cambodian visa. Not sure of the exact amount or other requirements for Cambodian visa coz I don't need one for my nationality.

i ring 1 hour ago jack golf ( visa run company ) they inform me on friday , as it is very quiet , no minivan with depart at 5.30 am ! i then ring an other company i use in the pass , they have one minivan living at 4.50 for a visa run !

it look like the are badly hit with the new regulation !

and perhaps in the future will not run every day .

the company i ring do not advertise in bangkok post , they use too ! perhaps they link with the one who advertise departure at 4.30 from silom in the bangkok post

My experience with Casino Bus:

Leaves 4am. New fee (for foreigners) is THB 300 roundtrip, THB 200 single. Thais go for 100 baht roundtrip. Only Thais are

allowed to get a breakfast if they register in the hotel (The Resort). But if you ask nicely, they provide also coupons for

foreigners. Bus arrives in Poi Pet 7:15 am. Leaves to Bangkok at noon.

The visa fee is US$20. This can be either paid:

THB 1,0000 for a direct visa

US$20 (there is a currency exchange) but I 've heard that they let you wait two hours (not confirmed, used only option 1).

Total fee for a visa run: THB 1,300. I see no need to use Jack Golf for 2,000 baht.

Where exactly do I catch this casino bus?

I need to do a border run for the first time in ages and I need to do it tomorrow(Sunday) if possible, I've completely forgotten what the process is, is it all self explanatory when I get there?

If you fancy getting an hour or two sleep :

I went just before Christmas with "Thai Visa Run Services".

This is their link :

http://www.thaivisaservice.com/

But it would be better to call (the number starts 081

not 01). as I used their reservation link , didn't get

any mail back and then called. The guy after told

me he had "web site problems".

I mean sleep because they talk about leaving On Nut

at 8am (we actually left a little earlier).

Cost , 1900b Cambodian visa fee included.

Lunch , so-so buffet in the casino but all you can

eat.

We got back to On Nut about 18:00.

All very smooth , no problems.

Hope this helps

If you're unsure of the process, maybe the option of farangsay is better... coz i presume they'd guide you???

but after you've been thru it once, i'd recommend the lumpini casino bus coz if cambodia visa is 1000 (?) and casino bus is 300, then you'd spend only1300 instead of 1900 and save 600 baht.

Ey! 600 Baht is at least 10 full meals in Bangkok! :o

Yes they do everything , a guy even fills in everything in the Thai arrival

card for you (based on your passport which is in his hand)

Cambodian side you have to do nothing except eat and buy duty free

(which has price labels on it not like Burma).

PS Junkxxx get your priorities right. 600b is 20 Chang yai in Tescos.

OK, maybe silly question, but the world malaria map has all of Cambodia as danger zone.

Do you take any meds for these runs?

Is the area around the border interesting enough to spend a couple of days then get a bus back?

No, I don't take any medication to go to the border :o

And no, it isn't an interesting place unless you enjoy watching beggars and sweaty tourists/visa runners

Way toooo long...............

Honestly, you need to allow for a full wasted day for this trip. This is worth it if you can manage to get you next free 30 day visa exempt stamp, but someone like myself and many others who have a 1 year multi entry Non O (not an extension), I think its kind of pointless to go there just to spend about 30 seconds in cambodia before turning around and comming back, just to get my next 90 day stamp. I would be more than happy to pay the 2000 baht I give to the visa run company to immigration, which would save me from sitting 8 hours on a bus, but then again, the visa is good for 1 year, why not just stamp everyone in untill the day their visa expires? The only money generated by the visa runs to cambodia that I do goes to the visa run company and for the cambodia visa (and the visa run company is owened by a non-Thai) If Thailand could come up with a more practical, common sense based visa laws and regulations, im sure they could make more money for thailand while also savings us farangs a trip on the bus every 90 days..............

just my 2c.

What are you babbling about?

You always have to take care of your visa yourself. Letting someone else doing the visa trip is illegal and if Thai immigration will fine you and maybe make your Non O invalid. There simply no legal way to avoid 'sitting in a bus for 8 hours'.

BTW If you think THB 2,000 will make Jack Golf do the whole thing for you ...

1 - Thai Exit ..... have to do yourself

2 - Cambodian Visa .... will be done by Jack

3 - Cambodia Entry ... have to do by yourself

4 - Cambodian Exit ... have to do by yourself

5 - Thai Entry ... will be done by Jack

Considering service 2 and 5 will save you approx. 20-25 minutes. I rather save THB 700 baht and do the whole thing by myself.

I wish I could see you in line in PoiPet.

Yes, come on the 24th .... If you see a rabbit, it's me ....

I went with Jack myself last year. This is my experience., In Ban Laem it's different ... There you do Thailand Exit and Entry yourself. Not so in Poi Pet.

And, Mr. Know-it-All, I did it last week in 34 minutes (excluding breakfast in The Resort casino). You would have wished you could do that with a whole bus of Jack Golf guests!
