Help with lock replacement

Featured Replies

We have a metal framed, glass door with a "CEKON" lock on it. It has a manual key lock one side and a turn latch on the other. The key has been misplaced and I wish to change the lock.

First problem is, how to remove the lock barrel? I'm guessing it must be "attacked" from the key lock side but I can't figure out how to remove surface mounted collar to release the barrel. I've tried unscrewing and gentle prising but no joy. There are no grub screws or push tabs like the door knob equivalent has.

I brought in a local locksmith who also failed to work it out. I've searched for CEKON locks and come up empty handed.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of mechanism?

I'm guessing it must be "attacked" from the key lock side.

Most likely wrong. All the locks I've used are secured from the inside fitting. If it could be removed from the outside it would be easily opened by burglars.

Look for a small hole somewhere on the handle or in the shroud. If you find it insert a steel wire or something the right size to push on a spring loaded pin, so you can remove the handle and take the shaft out of the mechanism. The shaft is probably attached to the key lock. You might have to tap it through.

Sometimes you have to push a small screwdriver between the handle and the adjoining part to push on a steel tab, but yours doesn't look like that sort.

If you can't find one, just cut the handle off with a hacksaw or angle grinder. Then you should be able to pull out the shaft.

Having just googled Cekon door locks I found a U Tube that shows UNSCREWING the lock barrel. I posted it in another post on here.

BTW. The best place to ask is in the housing/ DIY forum.

I agree totally with the common sense theory but with no visible way to remove the latch-turn opted for the other side.

No holes, tabs or grub screws unfortunately.

Have considered this option!

Yup, I saw the same video but alas the collars will turn but don't unscrew. The Cekon lock links all go either "sliding locks" or different companies entirely that don't have any Cekon info.

Many thanks for your thoughts and effort though.

Looks like it's the angle grinder then! As you are replacing the lock it doesn't matter destroying it.

Looks like a glass door, so cover the glass to prevent hot steel pitting it while grinding. Hack saw might be less destructive.

Did you try it with the lock "locked" or unlocked? If unlocked, the outer will turn freely without unscrewing, if it is a threaded hub.

Those two silver tabs on the face of the lock are heads of steel keys that secure the inner and outer barrels.Lever them out a bit with a screwdriver and pull them out. Use pliers if they are tight.

@thaibeaclovers,

Thanks for your further thoughts and yes I had tried with the lock both locked and unlocked...

BUT

@NanLaew,  YOU DA MAN! Brilliant catch, that is exactly how this lock works and it's now out. How did you manage to find that video?!

Thank you very much.
