webfact Posted August 14, 2017 Share Posted August 14, 2017 Driver drowns as flash flood sweeps pickup off Krabi road By The Nation KRABI: -- A Krabi motorist drowned on Monday morning after turbulent floodwaters swept her pickup truck off a road in Khao Phanom district. Police said Kanchana Chukham, 40, was driving home from Mueang Krabi at about 8.30am and was a kilometre from her house in Tambon Phru Diew in Khao Phanom when the tragedy occurred. They said the floodwater was 80 centimetres deep along a 100-metre stretch of the road and flowing sideways across it in a strong current. The pickup was flipped over and wedged between palm trees 50 metres from the roadway. Rescue workers aided by about 50 passers-by used rope to tow the truck back to the roadway. Kanchana’s body was still inside. She was the wife of Pongsak Chukham, a member of the Phru Diew Tambon Council. District chief Aroon Sing-in said flash flooding had damaged 10 houses in Moo 1 village and 15 more in Moo 4, both in the same tambon.
