Elderly man drowns while collecting lotus fruit in pond

A 70-year-old man drowned while collecting lotus fruit for sale in Angthong’s Chaiyo district on Monday.

 

The body of Sala Thongnoi was found floating face down in a pond in Moo 7 village in tambon Chaiyo at about 10pm.

 

His body was attached to an empty oil gallon can he had used as a floating device. 

 

Police said he apparently fainted and drowned.

 

His son, Somsak Thongnoi, 47, said Sala always collected lotus fruit at the pond and returned in the evening. 

 

But Somsak said his father failed to return home on Monday night so he alerted police, who found Sala’s body in the middle of the pond.
