Monks arrested over drug use

Featured Replies

Five monks and two students were charged yesterday at the Kampot provincial court with drug use and trafficking. Yin Sokhom, a provincial anti-drug police officer, identified the monks as Chan Thoeun, 42, Pa Vireak, 23, Kin Borith, 18, Keo Tith, 24, and Chhin Vanna, 32.

He said the monks were defrocked after their arrests. The student  monks were Soth Long, 42, and Hun Sovannara, 25.

Mr Sokhom said the group was arrested on Friday after police raided the Wat Chankiri pagoda in Phnom Kong commune. “They were arrested by our police while they were smoking drugs inside the pagoda,” said Mr Sokhom. “They were all charged by the provincial court prosecutor with drug use and trafficking.”

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

I did not know it was so stressful to be a monk and that you have to resort to

drugs to be one.  Seems like too many unsavory types joining monk hood and not

behaving them selves. It is a shame really as I do know a lot of dedicated monks

in Thailand and Canada. They are frustrated as well at these jerks habits and the stain

they put on the religion.

Geezer
