KRABI: -- Seven suspects have been arrested in possession of nearly 500,000 “yaba” amphetamine pills and more than 10 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, or “ice”, with a street value of about Bt100 million in Krabi’s Muang district, police announced on Thursday.

Somporn Ratpibul, 45, was initially arrested in a house in Tambon Nong Thale where authorities discovered 486,000 yaba pills and 10 kilograms of ice. He reportedly confessed to police that he had received the drugs from sources in the North for distribution to retailers in Krabi, Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces.

Somporn also provided information leading to the arrests of the alleged low-level drug dealers in the network: Noppadol Thongphetch, who was arrested with 2,100 yaba pills; Suriya Chansuk, 800 yaba pills; Chaiwat Saengsuwan, 108 yaba pills and 42.4 grams of ice; Monchai Thongduan and Chalaem Na Nakhon, 2,010 yaba pills; and Sitthichai Boonsong, 6,000 yaba pills.

The bust stemmed from the previous arrest of a drug dealer in Krabi’s Plai Phraya district, leading to a police investigation that identified Somporn as the supplier.
