Netanyahu pauses strikes on Iranian gas sites after appeal from Trump

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will suspend further attacks on Iranian gas facilities following a request from US President Donald Trump, as tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East. Speaking at a press conference, Mr Netanyahu confirmed that Israel would “hold off” on targeting gas infrastructure after discussions with Washington. He also rejected claims that he had drawn the United States into the conflict, insisting Israel was acting independently.

The announcement came as explosions were reported in both Jerusalem and Tehran, underlining the ongoing hostilities despite the apparent shift in Israeli strategy.

Earlier, Iran’s foreign minister had warned that Tehran would respond with “zero restraint” if further attacks were carried out against its infrastructure, signalling the risk of further escalation.

In recent hours, several Gulf countries have reported missile and drone strikes. The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain attributed the attacks to Iran, while Kuwait and Saudi Arabia also confirmed incidents affecting their territories.

Rising casualties and humanitarian concerns

The conflict, which began in late February, has led to a mounting death toll. The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said the number of people killed in Iran had risen to 3,186 since the start of the war on 28 February.

The figures highlight the growing humanitarian impact of the conflict, as fighting continues across multiple fronts in the region.

Energy infrastructure under pressure

The war has also had significant consequences for global energy markets. Prices have risen sharply in Europe and the United Kingdom following an attack on Qatar’s Ras Laffan energy complex.

Qatar’s prime minister described the strike as a “very dangerous escalation,” reflecting concerns about the targeting of critical infrastructure linked to global energy supplies.

The decision by Israel to pause further attacks on Iranian gas fields may ease some immediate fears of disruption, though uncertainty remains high as both sides continue military operations.

Regional tensions remain high

Despite the temporary restraint announced by Israel, the broader conflict shows little sign of de-escalation. Ongoing strikes, retaliatory threats and widening regional involvement have raised fears of a prolonged crisis.

Diplomatic efforts to contain the situation have so far struggled to gain traction, with both sides maintaining firm positions.

Observers say the coming days will be critical in determining whether the pause in attacks on energy facilities leads to a wider reduction in hostilities or proves to be a limited measure amid an intensifying conflict.

Which 1/3? Random?

Yeah. That's the beauty and wonder of it. Only takes us, too, not the clothes. Kind of like a heavenly nudist colony.

When was the last time a mainstream fundamentalist (any faith) strapped on a suicide vest?

If you are going to smear the whole of a religious group with the actions of the fringe violent lunatics you’ll need to take on board the KKK, Baruch Kopel Goldstein, Anders Breivik and many others.

Those you mention were serial killers not suicide bombers--except for Goldtein and the earlier militant fanatics there. In fact, that sets the stage for the violence happening in the WB today. Nothing has changed! And what do you mean by mainstream? Some might argue that Islam is the biggest religion in the world, or close. That sounds pretty mainstream to me.

Another legal rejection of Trump's toxic, corrupt and highly partial policies, and ability to limit press freedom and establish major censorship in America. Hopefully his continued erosion of democracy will stop soon.

US District Judge Paul Friedman in Washington, DC, ruled that the Pentagon policy illegally restricts the press credentials of reporters who walked out of the building rather than agree to the new rules.

The Times sued the Pentagon and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in December, claiming the credentialing policy violates the journalists’ constitutional rights to free speech and due process.

The current Pentagon press corps is comprised mostly of conservative outlets that agreed to the policy. Reporters from outlets that refused to consent to the new rules, including those from The Associated Press, have continued reporting on the military.

Friedman, said the policy “fails to provide fair notice of what routine, lawful journalistic practices will result in the denial, suspension, or revocation” of Pentagon press credentials. He ruled that the Pentagon policy ultimately violates the First and Fifth Amendment rights to free speech and due process.

“Those who drafted the First Amendment believed that the nation’s security requires a free press and an informed people and that such security is endangered by governmental suppression of political speech. That principle has preserved the nation’s security for almost 250 years. It must not be abandoned now,” the judge wrote.

Americans deserve visibility into how their government is being run, and the actions the military is taking in their name and with their tax dollars,” Stadtlander said in a statement. “Today’s ruling reaffirms the right of The Times and other independent media to continue to ask questions on the public’s behalf.

Theodore Boutrous, a lawyer who represented the Times at a hearing earlier this month, said in a statement that the court ruling is “a powerful rejection of the Pentagon’s effort to impede freedom of the press and the reporting of vital information to the American people during a time of war”.

Give it up, man.

Your canned pro-Israel narrative and talking points have lost all credibility in the face of the well-documented atrocities committed by this genocidal, apartheid regime.

They are winning. Your side is losing. Say no more hahahahahahaha.

I don’t have any ‘Iranian heroes’.

Not supporting this illegal Israeli/US war of aggression against Iran is not a statement of having any ‘Iranian heroes’.

So you think Iran was not a danger to the world. Got it.

The average person thinks that they're getting real news about this war when we're seeing censorship beyond anything in recent history.

During a tirade on his Truth Social website, the president attacked The Wall Street Journal for reporting on an Iranian military strike against American planes in Saudi Arabia, and called on other news outlets to be charged with “TREASON.”

Brendan Carr, Trump’s thuggish Federal Communications Commission chairman, threatened to revoke broadcasters’ licenses over their war coverage. Criticizing CNN’s reporting on the war last week, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made clear that he’s hoping its new owners quash its independence: “The sooner David Ellison takes over that network, the better.”

Rarely in modern history has an American administration made such blatantly authoritarian efforts to subdue its critics. Such naked coercion is a screaming sign of democratic breakdown. But we shouldn’t lose sight of how Trump is failing to bend the country to his will. Even as he’s wrecking American institutions, Trump is revealing the limits of his cultural influence.

Typically, the go-to move for Republicans at war is to bludgeon their Democratic opponents as unpatriotic. That’s harder to do without an echo chamber backing them up, especially since leaks suggest that even the vice president thought the war was a bad idea.

Interviewing Senator Chris Murphy on CNN last week, Jake Tapper asked whether his opposition to funding Trump’s war might be taken as voting against the troops. That’s the sort of argument that used to terrify Democrats, but Murphy was utterly unfazed. “Oh, come on,” he said. “The American people don’t want this war.”

With his war raging, he’s spent the last two weekends golfing. Trump refuses to treat his role with reverence, so others don’t feel much need to either.
