Several Dead After Tourist Coach Crashes In Swiss Alps

A tourist coach crashed in the south-eastern Swiss Alps, killing several people and injuring others, local police said.

Police said the bus overturned between Susch and Zernez in the Graubünden region, also known as Grisons, late on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred along a narrow country road in the mountainous area between the two towns. Swiss news images from the scene showed the coach lying on its side, with ambulances parked nearby and emergency teams carrying out their work.

Police did not provide details of the cause of the crash.

Dutch Passengers On The Bus

A spokeswoman for the General Dutch Association of Travel Companies, acting on behalf of tour operator OAD, said that 48 Dutch passengers were on board the vehicle.

The spokeswoman said they could not yet confirm how many people had died or how many were injured.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported that the figures were not available at the time of the statement.

Helicoopters And Ground Crews Deployed

A large rescue operation was launched after the crash, with teams equipped with several helicopters deployed to the site.

Emergency services were working at the location late into the evening, as ambulances gathered near the overturned coach.

The coach reportedly left the Netherlands on Monday. It was on a day trip to Switzerland from Austria when the crash happened.

Zernez Gateway To The Alps

Zernez is the main entry point for visitors to the Swiss National Park, a protected Alpine area stretching across the Engadine valley.

The park covers more than 100 sq km (40 sq miles) of mountainous terrain.
