Trump Floats Renaming Strait of Hormuz the 'Trump Strait'

President Trump floated the idea of changing the name of the Strait of Hormuz to the “Trump Strait” on Wednesday, despite the international waterway not being owned by a single country.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the proposal should be considered now that the strait is under U.S. control, adding that he believed the renamed strait would be “hotter” than before. He did not provide further details about how the change would be carried out.

The Strait of Hormuz is an international shipping lane with water that lies in and around the territories of Oman and Iran. Its legal status is not determined by any one state.

Proposal Follows Trump’s Territory Suggestion

Trump’s naming idea came after he suggested last month that he would declare the Strait of Hormuz a U.S. territory.

During remarks last month, he said he would be “declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States”. He has not explained how the U.S. would rename the waterway or what legal steps it would take to establish the strait as U.S. territory.

Importance for Global Energy

Roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas is transported through the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict involving Iran has reduced shipping activity, and energy prices have risen globally, according to the account provided.

The U.S. also maintains a naval blockade on the route.

War With Iran Continues

The war between the U.S. and Iran has passed six months, with no deals reached to end the fighting or to stop Iran’s nuclear programme.

On Tuesday, the U.S. launched a new wave of strikes on Tehran. Trump said at the time that he was not seeking to push Iran into negotiations.

He said he preferred the current situation, describing the U.S. as having almost total control of the Hormuz Strait and claiming that Iran’s economy was collapsing. He also urged Iranian people to oppose the situation, saying they would need to rise up and fight.

Sad that the Republicans are so afraid to tell him the truth and start to apply the brakes.

Well that would be stoopid, given that 97% of the Republican candidates he endorsed won their primaries. He's 251 for 260.

He and his antics may be more popular than you realize. He's trolling for lefties and Dems so they get so flustered that they own goal.

Strait of Hormuz is a stupid name, Trump is on to something.

WTF is Hormuz? Sounds like Hummus, I don't like it.

Strait of Trump is much better. But why not Trump's Strait?

Of course he's straight! He's not a furry effing Tyler Robinson!

It’s going to take some explaining in the history books.

From AI

The name Hormuz originates from the Middle Persian word Ohrmazd or Hormazd, which is derived from Ahura Mazda, the supreme god of wisdom and light in the ancient Zoroastrian religion meaning "Wise Lord"

Ai

Okay. Still sounds like "Hummus", which I don't like at all, Oh Wise Lord.

It's not a good name for a Strait. The Strait of Malacca...now that sounds proper exotic. Strait of Hummus, sounds like they didn't even try...

Trust Trump to pick up on this. He really is a genius. He has an ear for beauty. An eye for beauty. And a finger for...well you know...

Excellent idea and well worthy in my estimation .

Didn’t know there was that many beta males on here.

You realise that grotesque obsequiousness or sycophancy is text book behaviour of beta males, even theta males. It's hardly a strong trait. Snivelling fawning is hardly the trait of a tough guy.

I would prefer my leaders not to bite me on the arse, but you do you.
