Trump Portrait to Feature in Limited-Edition U.S. Passports

The United States plans to issue a limited-edition passport to mark the country’s 250th anniversary, featuring an image and signature of President Donald Trump inside the document.

Get today's headlines by email image.png

A White House official and a source familiar with the plan confirmed that the commemorative passport will display Trump’s portrait on an inner page over a stylised depiction of the Declaration of Independence. Mock-ups of the design were shared on social media by the State Department.

Officials say the passports are part of wider celebrations marking the nation’s semiquincentennial in 2026.

Anniversary passport design

The State Department said it will release only a limited number of the specially designed passports.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott announced the initiative on social media, saying the department would “release a limited number” of the commemorative documents.

Images posted alongside the announcement show Trump’s portrait placed above an artistic rendering of the Declaration of Independence on the inside cover.

The design forms part of broader efforts by the administration to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, commonly referred to as the semiquincentennial.

White House says design reflects patriotism

A White House spokesperson said the passport design would allow Americans to participate in the anniversary celebrations.

“President Trump’s new patriotic passport design provides yet another great way Americans can join in the spectacular celebrations for America’s 250th birthday,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

The spokesperson added that the president was leading a “renewal of national pride and patriotism” during the anniversary year.

Details about how the limited-edition passports will be distributed, or how many will be produced, have not yet been released.

Currency and coin proposals

The passport announcement follows earlier moves by the administration connected to the anniversary.

In March, the Treasury Department said Trump’s signature would appear on future U.S. paper currency. If implemented, it would make him the first sitting president to have their name appear on U.S. banknotes.

The Treasury said the change was also intended to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The decision comes alongside proposals to create two coins bearing Trump’s image: a one-dollar coin and a special 24-karat commemorative gold coin.

Under federal law, living presidents cannot appear on U.S. currency. However, the administration has argued that the restriction applies only to paper notes and not to coins.

Historically, only one sitting president has appeared on a coin. In 1926, a commemorative coin issued during the presidency of Calvin Coolidge included his likeness.

Anniversary initiatives continue

The passport, currency proposals and commemorative coins are among several initiatives tied to the upcoming 250th anniversary celebrations.

Officials say the measures are intended to mark the milestone year and highlight American history and national identity as the country approaches the 2026 anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Understand the emotions BUT ... As an American I accept no responsibility for trump

What an easy out... yet, we assume that, just as an example, the Iranians have to accept responsibility for their terror regime, submitting them to a merciless bombing camapign against civilian targets (and just today we read about extending the blockade to starve 90 million people; this is clearly a war crime). There are enough Americans cheering this on so that it is allowed to happen.

As were the Vietnamese, and the long list of all the other nations the USA has started not-wars with.

As this is going on for decades now, for more than a generation, no living American can claim innocence. In the end, as long as you still carry the passport and citizenship, this is on you, personally (as an American).

If the feckless Obama's picture were going to be in passports every lefty I know would be getting one...

Obama never had the desire to have his picture in a U.S. passport. The notion of having a standing President photo on a passport is really out of touch with tradition and considered lunacy. Trust Trump is that category of out of touch and a lunatic.

Can I pay extra to make sure that don't get one of these passports? It would be a decade of humiliation to have to carry around one of these documents with his picture in it. Especially after he's been sent into exile.

It's only a limited amount, and with any luck, seeing you support him so much, you might be in line for one.

Only 51% of Americans hold a passport, compared to 86% of the British, 70% of Canadians. If this encourages more Americans to get a passport, and maybe some of them to actually use it, then that is a good thing. Its a pity the President doesn't use the portrait he favoured in his first term.

Sadly, judging by some of the content on this forum, these maxims don't always hold true (its puzzling why, largely, men who presumably love to travel, end up hating other cultures, and being keen to express that).

It will be an insult to Mickey Mouse to be mentioned in the same forum with Trump. Mickey is a beloved global icon while Trump is a hated global nonentity.

Trump 🤡 wants his likeness and signature on everything,

he wants buildings with his name on , but there will come

a day when common sense returns to the USA ,and on that

day his name will be taken off buildings he does not own,

the golden ballroom and arch (if they ever get built) will be

torn down ,and the majority of people will say "never again"

and he will be remembered not as he hopes ,but as the worst

President America has ever had..that will be his legacy

It would be a nightmare to be stuck with this Passport - Good News - It is a limited edition and between 25,000 and 30,000 of the new passports will be available to applicants at the Washington, D.C., passport office beginning shortly before July 4.

Every day I fill up my car I am reminded directly, that the Americans out there owe me an easily calculable amount stolen out of my pocket by the USA.

I imagine the days will not be far when American passport holders -- especially those outing themsleves with such a passport -- will be hunted down in the street by angry mobs and relieved of their valuables to at least give back a little to all of us who were made to be poorer.

Of course, just an imagination -- or maybe not?

I think you're neglecting the $trillions in blood and treasure that the US taxpayer has paid over the past 80 years to keep the sea lanes open so you even have gas and a car to put it in.

You're welcome.

At that point I would have to seek a passport elsewhere, so I wouldn't be burdened with carrying around a document that had his horrifically ugly photo on it.

What per cent do you think Donnie gets from the passports (of $130), coins (how many dollar coins struck?) aso? He wouldn't do this just for vanity, he's a grifter.

I'm a dualie. I just had my passport renewed. Do you know there's no portrait of Trump in American Citizen Services?

I'd like to have one of these just for the joke value!

Please Lord, let my leftist friends' passports expire such that they end up with one of these!

Unlikely to happen.

As @JerryM's post points out, unless the applicant applies in person at the Washington Passport Agency, they will not be issued with this style of passport.

A Passport Agency official is quoted as saying that, "Online options or other locations will maintain existing passport design."

I think Trump should (at his own expense) have a phony front cover inside, removable sticker inserted into every passport issued for the next 12 months, how funny would that be?

"at his own expense". Yeah, right. Just like the Ballroom you will now be paying for with your taxes. $800,000,000 and counting.

Did you read that on RawStory or AlterNet? $400B

The left brings legal action to stop the private funding for the ballroom and when they get their way, the left howls about it being taxpayer funded. You lefties crack me up.

I'm happy to pay my share.

Hey, what about Newsom's California Capitol expansion that's 120% over budget and two years behind schedule, I have to pay my share of that as well.

I think it's a great idea, because it's optional.

Anyone who chooses it is obviously a low life, so Immigration officials in whatever country can get details on the visitors' travel and accommodations, and pass it on to gangs and other criminal types. No harm done if these passport holders become chalk outlines on a hotel rug,

In the meantime, folks lacking the Trump abomination will be viewed as "good people" and enjoy a safe and fun visit. It's a very easy way to differentiate good from evil, quality from scum.

Thailand, a nation suffering from higher energy costs and tariffs, solely because of Trump, can use such Trump-inspired passports to deny visa renewal. A Thailand without any MAGAs is near paradise.
