Trump Urges Zelenskyy and Putin to Settle as Attacks Mount

Russian attacks across Ukraine killed four people on Saturday, as Kyiv continued long-range drone strikes on Russian oil refineries and industrial sites, according to officials.

Deaths From Missile And Drone Strikes

Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president, said Russia carried out “numerous strikes on residential homes” in Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia, and in the Odesa, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

In Zaporizhzhia, the regional military administration said two women died after they were trapped under rubble at their home. A separate Russian attack on Sumy killed two people, local officials said.

In the Kyiv region, officials said two people were injured overnight after a Russian drone strike sparked a fire at a warehouse in the Boryspil district. Russian drones also struck several districts in the capital, injuring four people and damaging residential and office buildings, officials added.

Moscow And Kyiv Exchange Military Claims

Russia’s Defence Ministry said the attack on Kyiv damaged a data centre supporting mobile internet services and Starlink satellite communications.

Ukraine also reported attacks beyond the frontline. Ukrainian long-range drone strikes killed three people overnight in the Russian-occupied part of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, the Moscow-installed regional head Yevgeny Balitsky said, according to Russian state media.

Zelenskyy warned that Russia was escalating the war daily and called for stronger responses to prevent it spreading further, while describing the latest strikes.

Oil Refineries And Industrial Targets Hit

Ukraine continued to target Russian energy and industrial infrastructure with long-range drones. A drone attack in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region killed three people and wounded two, local officials said.

Veniamin Kondratyev, the regional governor, said on Telegram that the strike sparked fires at two industrial sites, without giving further details. Zelenskyy later said Kyiv had damaged the Ilsky oil refinery in the region.

Trump Comments After U.N. Meeting

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he hoped Zelenskyy would “settle” with Vladimir Putin, after commenting on a meeting with the Ukrainian leader at the United Nations General Assembly.

After meeting Zelenskyy on Tuesday, the Ukrainian president told journalists he trusted the White House could help end Russia’s invasion, even as attacks by both sides intensified.

Trump has previously said, during his 2024 election campaign, that he could broker an end to the war quickly. On Saturday, he said Zelenskyy and Putin were “going along” and that they could make a deal “someday”, adding that it might happen before the “heavy winter”.

“You know what I want him to do? Make a deal,” Trump said, referring to Zelenskyy. “I want him to settle with Putin, and I want Putin to settle with him.”
