People are people and it's their job to act cordial, although some you can see if it's real or not, especially if you're seeing them time after time. Everyone has bad days, and it makes it hard to always be smiles, so you give them the benefit of the doubt, just like those on the roads, who might drive haphazardly because of a bad day, and time will show their real selves.
I go to many of the same places when I'm back home, and some baristas have been there years, and still know what I want to order, asking me "the same as usual"? Some are genuinely nice people and some go through the motions to get paid.
Dogs will always like you, but with women it's not so easy. That's where the dedication comes in.
