Toyota Hilux Vigo Prerunner

Recommended Posts

I've ridden in a 2-door Vigo a couple of times...never recalled not being able to see the top of the tailgate when the driver reversed. Not sure when the Prerunner would be different than the regular models.

The Vigo is fairly wide compared with many other trucks. One thing that might help is to buy one of those oversized rearview mirrors that clip onto the standard mirror. You can pick one up at any Big C or similar dept store. Being wider/longer than the standard mirrors, they should allow you to see the tailgate and you won't have to rely on computer sensors when reversing.

The Vigo is a comfortable truck...plenty of room and feels like sitting in a car. I found the ride to be fairly smooth. I would imagine the Prerunner to be even better.

As for the Prerunner being a manual, I wouldn't mind that at all since I prefer manuals any day (check my Stick vs Auto thread). That would keep the cost down as having an auto adds another 40K Baht or so.

I put a set of parking sensors on my Vigo and must say they work perfect.

4 on the back and 2 on the front side. The display is in the rearview mirror. Also this mirror is wider and bigger then the standard mirror.

If the display says 30 cm, the distance is 30 cm.

It makes parking a lot easier.

Costed me a total 3800 Baht. And it´s well worth it!

I have a Prerunner as well as a Fortuner.

Must say the Vigo is a great car but in my opinion the Fortuner is the better one.

I had the sensors put in, as per my previous post. But they only put two on the front (too far to the edges) and two in the back, again too far to the edges. I will need to go back to install 2 more for the rear.

As it is now, it tells me when I am backing up about to hit something to the side (at about 1 o'clock or 11), but nothing when it is center of the bumper.

I almost got in big trouble yesterday with only two sensors placed on the outside edges. I had to backup to turn around and there was metal pole right in the middle, which the sensors never caught. I almost hit it but caught it in the mirrors just in time. Just a warning. Get at least a third middle sensor. :o

So, what is the roof rack for? I note it has barrels of space for groceries in the back, so why the roof rack?

easy answer to that one, we get 3 dirt bikes in the back and the gear bags get strapped on the roof, ( and im too lazy to take it off when not in use ) ,groceries are not carried in this trucK ! :o

Was your original Toyota rearview mirror replaced with the new rearview mirror with backup display information or is it of a clip-on style. The reason I'm asking is because I had purchased a clip-on LCD/mirror to view a rear video camera when backing. The mirror worked ok when backing, but would vibrate and shake when I was driving down the road. I could not find a way to stabilize the view, drove me crazy so I removed it. I think mine was just too heavy for the standard mirror support arm.

MVM, what size wheels and tyres have you put on your Navara???. What can you get away with and how is the handling affected by raising. I presume this might also invalidate your 3 year warranty?
The wheels are only 17s but ive gone up 2 sizes on the tyres in profile and width, it didnt need it but ive also raised the truck by 2 inches, i asked at nissan if there were any issues with warranty and was told no,.

Mine's the 4x4 dualcab, I suppose the suspension is the same as prerunner.I find it bumpy with any psi. Currently running 32 psi all four wheels and still unsatisfied when I took it for service at Toyota they laugh saying my tyres are flat, they recommend filling 10 more psi. It must be the suspension then should I change the shocks since many people in Malaysia correct them with Bilstein, racho 9000or Koni gas shocks.

It was replaced for a new mirror.. This one was also bigger and i like it.

Jareddriving,

What brand and model backup sensor system did you purchase?  I don't think I've seen anything like that here in Pattaya.  I like the idea of mirror replacement versus the clip-on style.
