Uzbekistani Prostitutes rounded up by Pattaya Police.

Pattaya City News - Tuesday 6th May 2008

In the early hours of Tuesday Morning, Police Major Witaya was on routine patrol when he received a complaint regarding a group of foreign women suspected of engaging in Prostitution. The Officer made his way to Walking Street where he spotted the women, who were later found to be from Uzbekistan. They were seen approaching tourists; however the exact details of discussions were not heard. A total of 12 women were arrested and taken to Pattaya Police Station where they confessed to engaging in prostitution. They further revealed that customers would pay between 2,500 and 3,000 Baht for their services and they had been operating for the last 2 months. They will be sent to court and it is expected they will be deported if they are found guilty of charges brought against them.

It sure seems like barely 3 months ago that the last "round-up" occurred. Funny how they can ply their trade for 2-3 months before "someone" files a complaint (most likely their pimp).

Seems to happen 3-4 times a year. New girls arrive, earn oodles of money (for their "handlers") but soon slow down (or learn to stash more of the cash), and suddenly the police get a complaint. The girls are rounded up and deported to make room for a fresh batch.

Somebody mark their calendar and lets see if we see a similar story 2-3 months from now. (note: I found 4 threads about Uzbeki prostitutes being arrested in Pattaya last year, in May, July and October. Could be more though.)

Are their customers mostly Thai or foreigners?

Mostly older foreigners apparently (according to some girls I spoke to in some bars along Walking Street). From what they saw/said, it seems these girls preferred "demographic" is the older foreigners that tend to sit alone at a bar, no friends, unwilling or unable to try and speak any Thai.

The Uzbek's find them easy prey as they often speak decent english, and the lonely old guys are so happy to meet a decent looking girl that speaks the same language, that they are willing to pay well above the normal "going" rate.

This batch is lot better than the last ones... mind you seems what they charge, prob would price them out of the market.

Cheap Charlie Alert ! Cheap Charlie Alert ! :o

You are right though. They do appear somewhat better looking than the usual crew that gets rounded up every so often. I'll bet they do all right even with the much higher rates, as there are always going to be some folks around that are homesick and willing to pay extra (maybe fantasizing that it's a bird from back home, the likes of which they'd never stand a chance anywhere else) ? I've seen guys offer ridiculous sums to some (Thai) girls (and still get turned down !). Wouldn't surprise me if these Uzbeks get good offers (especially if they are decent looking).

And as we know, it's a buyers market out there. If the buyers weren't willing to pay the price, the sellers would have to lower theirs (or pack up and go elsewhere).

Not sure if the Russian tourists are a part of their "target" market as well ? Maybe for the same reason (lonely, not willing/able to speak Thai or even English, and longing for a "taste" of home) ?

In any event, it still seems odd how this kind of event happens so often, especially in a place that doesn't have prostitutes or prostitution (according to some) !!
