Best Way To Find Someone In Thialand?

Recommended Posts

Need assistance on searching for family in Thialand. If anybody has any suggetions on the best ways to search for people any suggestions would be much appreciated. I am from Canada and any online resources would be great or places that I can call. I am not sure how the government listings work or where would be a good place to start. The only information I have is the last name, birthdate, place of birth.

try going to the local Amphur or government building and ask there....you said you knew the family name and date of birth. They probably have details but are more likely to point you towards a village if thats where they come from

I interpret your words to mean you are still in Canada and need remote help. If that is not true, you are in Thailand, then the previous advice is good.

If you are in Canada, then my suggestions may be of some value. Now I am also assuming you are searching for a family in the Chiangmai area since you contacted the Chiangmai forum. If not my suggestions still apply but tailored; go up to the Thaivisa home and search for a forum in/near the location you are interested in and start there.

For Chiangmai area, I would suggest contacting the Chiangmai Expats' Club at their forum and asking for help:

You can go to CEC web site http://www.chiangmaiexpatsclub.com/index.asp and then to the Newsletter. You might consider placing an ad in the newletter (not sure how you would do it from Canada, but there will be a link to contact the newletter; I am sure you can find the details).

With the amount of foreigners over here now and the number of marriages, you very likely can find someone who can help you. And with the amount of time many people have been here, they have contacts all over (e.g., a relative in college may have friends from the town in which you are interested). You will just have to persevere and maybe ask for help by personal email (i.e., ask people to contact you off the forums).

From your other post, it seems that you are seeking to prove your nationality and obtain Thai citizenship.

which means sooner or later, you will need to be/plan to come to Thailand.

Remote help is a long shot, unless of course you hire a Private Detective, as locating long lost relatives simply from an English romanized (spelling) Thai name of decades ago is by no means a simple task and requires someone motivated and determined individual on the spot. Sending some expat to ask around won't likely prove any results (unless you're luckier than I was) as things change over the years--name changes, village changes, marriages, movings, deaths etc. etc. and unless he/she is paid or really determined to obtain frustration and headache to help someone he doesn't even know, than, like I said it's a long shot.

I expired the remote help posting on countless forums, making overseas calls to strangers, and writing letters to absolutely no avail seven years ago, and though times have changed since than, I'd still say you're most reliable route is to get over here and begin your souls' quest.

I know how demotivating pestimism can be, so... you can always try the remote route... there's a white pages available online which requires Thai language. If you can provide the surname and city, there is a chance a contact could exist ... city shouldn't be problem finding out Thai spelling, but name is a minor task (assuming they are alive and have a registered phone number) If you don't have the Thai spelling, I suggest going to the Thai language forum and asking for someone to spell the name in Thai, and take it from there.

Cheers,
