I think we might be better off shutting up about it. You know how well foreign political pressures are welcomed here. I can understand people being so outraged by the coup that they see support for PPP as a continued protest against the coup. Its all still very fresh.

BTW, not that I like PPP, but what the "Democrats" pulled is just so much worse, they're not a viable option. Let them rot in those couple Southern provinces where they have their base.

yep... no bribing votes from PPP.... they pay people simply to read what day it is...

The Election Commission (EC) yesterday ruled that there are grounds to allegations of vote-buying by the People Power party (PPP) in Nakhon Ratchasima. Commissioner Sodsri Sattayatham said the EC found evidence of alleged vote-buying by members of the PPP in constituency 3 of the province. The EC has ordered parliamentary candidates at the centre of the allegations to testify next Thursday, she said. The three candidates are Prasert Chanruangthong, Linda Cherdchai and Bunlert Krutkhunthot. A man was earlier arrested with a number of calendars with bank notes stapled to them. The calendars allegedly contained information and photos of the candidates.

I have to say though things didn't completely fall apart in Chiang Mai since Thaksin's departure. Like the tunnels are actually being finished, the Royal Flora isn't ploughed over.. things are progressing just fine.

Don't forget it was Thaksin with some of the stupider ideas, like the Night Safari and talk of a new airport for Chiang Mai. (I was SO happy Airbus flew their big A380 over to Chiang Mai so it showed to everyone once and for all that the airport is just fine and can potentially handle even the A380 if need be.)

I respect Thaksin as the guy who got the majority vote and should be Thailand's lawful elected PM, but that doesn't mean I actually agree with him all of the time. (or even most of the time)

If I was Thai I would not have a clue what to vote for ,

what a mess it is politics .

I would probably vote democrats because it might be

or give more stability then the other options .

On the other hand for here in the North it definitely

would be much wiser to vote PPP , cause they are much

more willing to do something for the locals and local economy

and upgrading infrastructure , which the past is showing

they did . That's why they are still popular and in my opinion will win

this coming election .

Answering that would result in a thread-jack on to US politics. I'd be hard pressed to find a person with less things in common with Thaksin than Al Gore.

I always considered Thaksin a lot more similar to the likes of Sylvio Berlusconi. Or Putin even.

Why would believers-in-democracy think it is good or fortunate, that some human beings resident in Thailand, are not allowed to express their opinions by voting ?

Surely not because they disagree with the way they would vote ?

Because only citizens have a right to vote and almost all of us farangs are not Thai citizens. I can vote in my home country (Hillary Clinton, you win girl!).

I think it might be good if we had a right to protest here but even if we did, it would backfire if we ever did, but it would be nice if it weren't illegal. This is my American bias showing, non-citizens are allowed to protest US government policies on US soil, and I think this is a good thing for any country to allow (what does it hurt and you can take pictures of the subservices, he he he).

I don't think it's strange that only citizens of a particular country can vote? Personally I'm on a Non-Immigrant visa. That means I'm not an immigrant. In my country too, people who aren't citizens can't vote.

A couple people do actually get Thai citizenship.. After that they can vote.

To me, the real issue is that this procedure is so hard, not the election laws per se which are sensible in this regard.
