I used to keep track of all the attacks and deaths on Samui reported on this forum before arriving. What I noticed is that all happened between midnight and 6am. This is one dangerous place to be alone during those hours. Some will say it's like that all around the world but I've lived in several countries and never heard about attacks on foreigners (for the entire day) as much as I do here for just those late hours.

Your last post was 15 month ago, many of your previous posts are about rape/crime....what are you trying to do ?

Abusive and insulting posts and their subsequent responses have been deleted. Please do not resort to insults in order to make a point.

As for the editing of the title, until there is a confirmed news source, someone saying they heard from the consul is just not verifiable. Per admin regulations concerning these kinds of posts.

just for an fyi, I added the word rumoured to the title as so far it is only that & will be until an accredited news source or press release is made. There was imo, no need to make a note of the adjustment.

Unfortunately we cannot post hearsay as verfied fact. And your wife hearing it from friends is just that, hearsay.

Have to add, this is per admin--too many times posts have been made about something that happened only to find out that the OP got it completely wrong. A good example is the murder of the Indian man at the Full Moon Party. OP reported him as Swedish and that two people had died. While the second person involved did die, it wasn't until 2 days after the OP.

It well known that most crime is not news worthy in Thai society especially if it may harm the image of the country or more so this little island of Koh Samui. This is down to Local Agency's, and Farang business owners alike, Sure the island is pretty safe if you follow the same rules you would at home, but tourists come here for many reasons, relaxation and letting there hair down amongst them. Surely if Samui wants to reinstate its previous image visable policing and stern actions against wrong doers would go a long way. The new police boxes seem to be used as resting or pick up points for motorbike taxi drivers. A lot of crime is commited by ladyboys between 2-6am and they are scattered all along the beach road, surley a 2 man police patrol going up and down the main area searching and moving along these criminals in wait would help, as it is they are free to do whatever they want.

No, lets hope its a load of bull for the sake of the girl.

I agree with breezein about visible policing, and have pointed this out in other crimes against tourists threads. The police don't seem interested in patrolling or crime prevention in this country but rather show up after the fact.

I think you will soon find out that this is not just a rumour. Just because it hasn't appeared in the Bangkok Post doesn't mean it didn't happen.

The Bangkok Post get their information from the local police who are well known for suppressing or distorting stories to suit their own agenda. I would say that the Honorable Consul of Australia who has spent hours dealing with this case is a far more reliable source than a hack in Bangkok being spoonfed stories.

Just to add a little further info to the story. The local police was not interested in the rape complaint, which prompted the consul to contact the governor of Surat province, who then sent a group of police from Surat to investigate the case.

There is 2 reasons why the local police are hesitant in registering or investigating complaints.

1. They are usually busy running their own private tea money businesses, paid for escorts etc. etc. In fact they do not even pickup the phone if you try to call them (try yourself at 077414567). Further, they know nobody is going to complain about them or their lack of commitment to their job, as most people wouldn't know how to complain, and those who do, also know it would be fruitless.

2. They (or more likely someone higher up) don't want this kind of news to get out, as it is indeed bad for tourism.

The latter is the biggest problem, as those who commit crimes are well aware of this, and therefore know there will most likely not be an investigation, hence no punishment. The only reason this case is now being investigated, is because the consul himself has the right connections. Had the girl been alone when trying to file a report, it would have ended right there, together with most other cases on Samui Island.

Besides the governor of Surat must himself wonder what the Samui police is actually doing, since he has to send Surat police everytime he hears of a problem on Samui.

newbies posting without any actual reported information to back it up is still just heresay not fact or confirmation of truth. If this is a real case then someone should be contacting the foreign press, with the recent spaight of high profile murders of foreigners in the last few months I am sure some foreign press agency would want to pick this up.

I would also like to point out a reminder that creating & using multiple nicks for whatever peurpose is a bannable offense on thaivisa. :o

The facts are above your post.

Please refer me to the facts. Which posts contain facts? So far it has all been hearsay.

Daily News, March 28.

At 8.00 am on March 26 the Koh Samui police received a report from Ban don inter Samui hospital that a foreign tourist had been raped. Police found 'Cherry' aged 20, in a state of shock, with a fellow Australian girl comforting her.

'Cherry' and her friend had rented rooms at Samuang House Resort, before the incident Cherry had been sleeping in one room whilst her friend was in an adjacent room.

A man had then entered her room, dark skinned, wearing a black Tshirt and shorts and armed with a sharp knife, he warned her not to resist or cry out. Squeezing her neck, he raped her before fleeing with her mobile phone, cash and passport.

Police believe the villain is a man from the local area and said his arrest will follow soon as the crime seriously damages tourism.

:D What a nightmare...Poor girl; what a <deleted> animal :o

I certainly hope there aren't any posters who will claim she wasn't dressed properly...sleeping in her own room (referring to the murdered Swedish girl on Phuket)

Can not imagine what this poor girl is going through, its time this island had a police force to protect and serve instead of showing up later.

God be with you in your time of need
