So many delicious foods, so little time!! I think Thai food is great. I love tom yam, somtam, tom kha, chicken in pandanus leaf, laab and pak boong fai deng. The list of things I enjoy eating is too long to type here. Anything without prawns for me. (allergic unfortunately)

I'm a 'Phet-Waan' (Hot'nSweet) kinda guy. I like crunchy/chewy textures...

Som Tam is alltime favorite (and yet to get the trots, either!) I often prefer it using unripe Mango, rather than the normal Papaya :o

I also like homemade stir-frys using a mixture of East-West ingredients. one of those things bachelors learn to make, it seems. A potpourri of whatever is around, tossed about in a wok with plenty of garlic and pepper. :D

I like the TYG flavoured noodles and I like chicken and sticky rice if they are of good quality which they very rarely are.

Some of the others are ok and I like one of the desserts despite having a savoury tooth but generally I find Thai food is best avoided.

Would have to agree,

I think there is something about eating spicy, (chilies ...) that helps

prevent diarrhea pathogens from taking hold, never had any issues in that department,

Staying with spicy and lots of it, :o

For a nice snack, nothing beats some "Me-an Kam". The ground up coconut, small shrimps, chopped onions etc. wrapped in a lettuce-type leaf with that special sauce. :o

Just so others will know, Som Tam recipe follows:

Peel the papaya and rinse under running water. Remove the seeds and shred the flesh with a grater. Set aside. Place the garlic cloves and chillies in a mortar and mash with a pestle until crushed into pieces. Add the papaya and the remaining ingredients and gently combine all with the pestle and a spoon. Serve cold.

1 medium dark green papaya

4 garlic cloves

6 green Thai chillies (phrik khi nu)

2 tomatoes, cut into wedges

1.2 cups green beans, chopped into 1/2 in (2.5 cm) pieces

2 tablespoons anchovy sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup (2 fl oz / 60 ml) lime juice or tamarind juice

It's also pretty tasty to use a Thai cucumber instead of papaya. Not quite as strong a tone to it.

I don't know the name of it in Thai, but in English it is usually just called Spicy Beef Salad.

You're thinking Yam Neua. And, yes, if made right it is delicious. Perfect with cold beer on a hot day.

Another nice one with beer is Nam Tok (Moo/Neua).

My missis used to make, in Malaysia, what I considered the best Tom Yam, khung and gai together. She always used tiger prawns and the best pieces of chicken breast. Oooo, I can taste it again now!
