george
Teacher dies suddenly CHIANG MAI - Police suspect heart failure caused the death of an American English teacher who died in a hotel room with a 19-year-old prostitute in Chiang Mai early yesterday. Walter Louis, 44, a lecturer at Thammasat University, was found dead in a room of Muang Thong Hotel in the city's Muang (city) district at about 3am. Police said they found heart medicine and three Viagra pills in the room. They said he had taken the girl from a go-go bar opposite the hotel. Lt-Colonel Itthirat Saenpanya of Muang police station quoted the girl as saying that the American collapsed on top of her. His body was sent to Chiang Mai Hospital for an autopsy. --The Nation 2004-01-

PeaceBlondie
Sorry to hear. Such a young age, we might think, to die of a heart attack. But if he already had a heart condition, his cardiovascular specialist should have prescribed the heart medication with the warning not to take Viagra. Tragic, but not that unusual. When Viagra first came out in the 1990's, I heard a cardio specialist being interviewed about it on radio. He said that vigorous exercise such as intercourse often causes heart attacks, and that the use of Viagra would increase those deaths. I went to the cardio expert for high blood pressure, and was sure to get his permission to use Viagra along with the other medication. If the doctor says no, you're endangering your life. Galong
Well I reckon this will be seen as justification for the 'witch hunt' mentality used to weed out the foreign devils. Having someone die on top of you must be horrible... it'd be like having sex again with my first wife!

chownah
Walter Louis When i turn onto this page and read the name i thought it was my friend but was relief to the the second name is different lol Well, tytus, thank you so much for sharing this insight with us. I know it would have been easy at the moment of discovering that it wasn't your friend to just pass it by and not reveal this insight to all of us but if you had our lives would not have been enriched by your post which so generously has spread your discovery.....the discovery that your friend Walter did not die over three years ago.....are you and Walter very close? I had a friend named Walter too but we are not very close. I can't remember his last name but perhaps I should go check to see if it was him.....think I should? Thanks again, Chownah Edited February 21, 2007 by chownah

Exactly - Thats why I expressed wonderment that Viagra was going to be sold OTC in the UK
Jingthing
I think everything should be sold over the counter. Having meds available to buy over the counter is a good thing. It shows that in many ways Thailand is more free than our home countries. As adult consumers, it is our responsibility to seek out medical advice about what to take, dangerous side effects and interactions, and the like. It is surprising that an educated man was not aware of the issues with Viagra for those with heart conditions.

Thanks again, Chownah Gosh.. my uncle's name was Walter, but he died four years ago. Could he have been your friend? Or could he have been Tytus's friend??..... Say.. one of basketball's greatest players was named Walter, could HE have been either of your's friend? errrr... wait a sec... scratch that. His name was Wilt, but I think I did read that he took Viagra... err... no... sorry again, that was a bookstore owner named Wilt. Nevermind. Anyway... I'll move on and let the thread turn hot again. Strange then you wish people to seek a clinicians help in finding out about AE's and interactions? If its a libertarian viewpoint why not just have the consumer read MIMS or Martins and take their chances? The fact is many clinicians do not know about all AE's concerned and interactions of many medications and it often takes specialists to know this.
