instead of flying from Hong Kong to Cebu or Manilla you can get a 1.5h boat ride to Macau, from where there are budget airlines to Bangkok.

I was looked at BKK to Macau on AirAsia which is now 1,150 baht plus taxes. Then Hong Kong to London on Oasis.

But I found a cheaper option for a visit to the UK in November. Sri Lankan Airlines currently has Columbo to London return for around £100 plus taxes. Add a return from bangkok to columbo and total costs including all taxes was about £300.
