  1. "In his book Outliers, Malcolm Gladstone talks about the reason that the Chinese are so much better at mathematics than their Western counterparts. Basically their numbering system is far more logical than the western system which makes calculations much easier. As the basics are easier to learn their mind doesnt need as much time to digest the information and so they progress more quickly but that "headstart gives them an exponential advantge over time."

As far as I am aware the Thai numbering system is much the same , in spoken word, as Cantonese .

  2. I was at the Celtic vs Ross County game ( Cross Country ? asked my son ) and it was a poor effort from the tic with no attacking midfield and just a boot the ball about and lets see what happens attitude mostly . The pies and bovril were ok , it had been a while.

We were all set to go to Firhill on new years day with tickets from a friend, at the thisle end . We went to the Wintersgills then the Oran Mor instead . The talk was , the way celtic are playing the jags would have went out to beat them and then very possibly have sealed the fate of Ronnie and sent him packing . Thats a tough month ahead for Celtic with everything to lose with two games in hand in the league.

Any ideas on who will take Ronnie's place.

    Glasgow's green and white.

  3. It was reported in the Thai Daily news today that authorities in Beijing have announced that the couple involved in the water splashing incident will be severely punished after footage of the incident was shown on Chinese TV.

Like I said ...they are heading up north for a week of re-education ...nothing like -15 degrees wind to make you chant why one should never waste hot water

The Chinese camps make quick learnings ...on how to behave in public and are very effective

Lawrence are you saying it should be compulsary ?

They don't make that compulsory only the high profile ones like this dumb idiot who is a disgrace to the country

And the practicality of the Chinese is always there ...the amazing thing is these camps are not free and the families have to pay for the upkeep as rice cost $$$ and if jails are modeled this way ...I guess crime rates will drop

So unless this kid is some CCP members son ...he's going for the no frill winter camp

The four people involved in this incident may also get a travel ban of sorts .

  5. 1) Chinese passport holders who are in transit through Hong Kong from another country, region or territory may

be granted a stay of 7 days without the prior need to obtain an entry permit, with the condition of possession

of valid Chinese passport and confirmed onward air tickets for the overseas journey. If Chinese passport holders

will go for mainland China or Macau via Hong Kong, onward air tickets are not compulsory.

So if a PRC national was in SAR Macau and involved in some illegal business and their seven days were up they would have to leave the SAR Macau and do a border run, so to speak, to be able to carry on that business . I have listed three choices available , there could be more.

    1) they could travel to Hong Kong SAR by ferry, and stay for seven days if they wanted, and return by the same route or another destination with a route to Macau.

    2) they could go back to PRC at the border gate and return by same or another destination with a route to Macau .

    3) they could fly out to another country, Thailand being a safe entry and with cheap flights, and return to Macau.

I beleive the Bangkok route presents less hassle .

I am sure this it what I saw on numerous flights between Macau and Bangkok in 2009. The bit about rude and argumentative behaviour just made these crews stand out more.

  6. I have had to put up with this behaviour on airasia Bangkok to Macau . The route to Macau from Thailand seems to allow PRC Chinese a way to bypass visa requirements that are in place on the land crossings or flights from China . Anyway , they are nuts . The redeye monday morning express was always full of crew cutted mobsters who were escorting large groups of young women . Noisy morons delaying the take off by fighting over who sits where on an airasia flight is a nightmare , as if it wasn't bad enough .

Err, I would suggest that as they are already in BKK then the PRC Nationals already have a travel permit and of course can enter Macau that is in itself an autonomous region of the PRC. No?

You could be right but I think they need an entry permit for Macau . I would also hazard a guess to say that these crews were not normal tourists but again Macau is full of hard looking mobsters and they might well like their jollies in Bangkok with 30 + dolly birds in tow . I too have experience with the normal tourists every weekend on the Macau to HK ferry and they are at worst noisy and daft. No disrespect intended. Getting violent and threatining flight attendants is the entitiled behaviour of a criminal element.

  8. Not according to my friend in Bali who has T2 diabetes. This is a guy who checks his blood sugar levels every few hours. He told me noodles was okay, he didn't know why as they're mostly made from rice in Asia, he can't ell me why so I have no chance of the "why"

They could be egg noodles which have some flour but are mainly made from eggs which have no carbs worth mentioning.

Could be but he's been living in Bali for 20 plus years and he did make the comment re noodles as they're made from rice! Oh well.

I'll give them a whirl with my meter.

    me too
