  1. But then what happened yesterday , there where many articles regarding Jesus , and he was actually married blah blah blah .... Was there riots over it ? No .....

It's satire, comedy ... A bit of fun.. We can't give into these people ...

Agreed that the outrage this causes is unjust, unfortunately still happens.

Can't give in is easier said if you don't happen to be at work in Iraq at the moment like myself..... oh joy!

I wish people expressing their freedom of speech would start doing it in ways that caused mass kindness and respect.

  2. OP you must be a Greenhorn, wake up and go outside.

Yes in almost all countries graft / gifting / bribery / corruption are common. If you are fr north america or europe this happens on a much higher

level and general society is not exposed to it. Many other parts of the world it is apart of everyday life.

I hear this argument all the time and it is utter rot. Is corruption 'common' in Europe or N America? No, it is not. The association with committing a crime is there . . . in Thailand it is not. It is accepted, acknowledged, widespread and open and exists from the street vendor to the highest government offices and corporations

There is a world of difference

It is not? Respectfully I disagree. It is absolutely common in Europe and North America. Has there even been a president that has made it more that two years out office with out being charged with some sort of illegitimate business deal. On lower levels I agree It does not exist that is correct.

I did not say anything about how it was associated with crime, accepted or not. It is a part of most if not all societies and viewed in many different ways in many different regions. of course there is a world of difference.

  3. i was under the impression you had to hand over your old passport when applying for new, though this might not be the case if you had and adequate amount of alternate id

No you hand over the old passport when you receive the new one.

........or, they make the old passport invalid by punching holes in it or cut the edges; there might still be a valid visa in it!!

Take care that you do get some kind of notification, that the new passport replaces a certain old passport; some immigration-offices do require such a letter, especially if they have to transfer visa or extensions of stay.

I am a not a 100% but every time my passport was sent to different country for visa it could not go directly to the embassy. Also the embassy couldn't ship directly back to me and was usually routed through a company office then back to me. Anytime inside country was no issue. This used to be same for getting Thai visa in UK, thai embassy would return to address in UK but not outside.

From my experience after one lost Canadian passport, one stolen, two filled maybe three I can't remember They will leave a notification indicating your passport replaces a lost or stolen one with old numbers included. If is replaced for normal reasons then no notification.

They will hole punch or cut corners on all pages but not a page with valid visa, this has happened to me a couple times and you can still travel with your new passport and use the visa in your old invalid passport to gain access to countries.

I have found in many places that if it is not a busy embassy they will go above and beyond what their normal services are, if embassy is a well used one a lot less chance of any extra service.

  4. I am sure that Somchai will be delighted that you are on the scene, he'll probably take you out for drinks. I think you need to have a good think about this, it's not the same as back home...

"This sucker will be great....he don't even need a work permit...we can bleed him dry...."

Could end up reading about this one somewhere down the line...

Yes I am sure we will. Some very entertaining threads lately lol!

  5. If I had never been to Thailand and was wanting to move and start something successful with a little simple research on Wikipedia I would find that Thailand has population of around 66 million consumers and a economy that is dominated by import export and industries such as electronic appliances etc.

Tourism makes up about 6% of the economy but is commonly mistaken to be a major part of Thailands economy.

Not saying that some don't do well in tourism but if I wanted to come here now and be successful I would chase a bigger part of the market.

  6. What park did you intend on camping in? There was an article last year about a study regarding increasing tiger population at Thap Lan national park confirming 8 tigers with estimates of 20-50 because they had only looked at a small part of park.

seems with all the hazards unless you are well prepared a hotel would be best option, lock your self in for a week.

On another note, If you are writing content for a book in the jungle you would be using a pen and paper, not a laptop, ipad etc... that's weird lol!
