  1. Hi Gulfsailor

I think that you will need to consider fuelling facilities if you are intending to attract non-sailing types.

Also a crane/winch for minor maintenance.

Getting a boat in/out of the water in Bang Po at certain times of the year may be a problem due to wave height.

It's a good idea but would exclude me due to the size restriction and the lack of a safe mooring area. I use Petcharat

at Bang Rak although they are a little pricey.

    Gator

Gator, do you know other services Petcharat can provied, like boat storage or maintance?

  2. Only promblem with bang po is you will need to build a bloody big jetty which needs approval from the marina department which will cost a lot of money ! What is your budget to buy and build this buiness ?

Sorry, I don't understand why I would need to build a jetty. I am talking about boats up to 20ft and 200kg, which can be sailed in shallow waters and dragged up and down the beach on a dolly. (Laser, Sunfish, Walker Bay, Small speedboats, Hobie Cat, etc). There is a row of coral in front of Bang Po, but nearly in front of the land I am looking at, there is an opening in the coral, like a canal. Boats up to 20ft and a depth of up to 3ft should have no problems passing the coral at high tide. At low tide you may need to dolly your boat a bit further away from the beach.

The beach itself is evenly sloped onto the flat land behind it, so taking boats in and out should be easy. I might install an electric winch, which would making dragging a boat back up to the beach possible by one person! The actual land itself where boats would be stored is high enough, so that the sea would never run over it, even at high tide and with big waves (typical November/December conditions).

I just figured out that it is also a great place for kayaking. The coral is being treated somehow by the Marine Department and where it used to be dead and black, it is actually starting to show some life now again! so if someone has a kayak and seeks a nice permament location to put it, I could build a storage rack for these as well...

My budget is pretty limited. I would need to build a perimiter wall and fence with gate, so the boats are secure at night, as well as flatten the land nicely and put in a road that allows easy access to the boat storage plots and leads out onto the beach. But if someone likes the idea and wished to participate, please do PM me.

This is not meant as a profitable business, but because right now there is no place you can leave your boat safely near the water, unless you live on the beach and keep en eye on it at all times, this could be a very welcome addittion. And if it allows me to live on the beach and keep my boats there as well, I will settle for that.

I know a few people myself, who would love to own a boat, but don't buy, beacuse they do not know where to put it. Cars generally do not have a hitch, so trailering boats around is difficult. A lot of people live in communities or compounds and most neighbours would not like the idea of a boat sitting in the common grounds... With current prices for beach land on Samui, this would be impossible to offer, unless asking for thousands of Baht per month storage fees for just a small boat. The thing about this plot in Bangpo is, that although pretty wide, it is not deep enough to allow builing a house of normal size. A previous lessee had all of his building plans for this plot of land thrown out by the land department, so he left the land and it is now as good as impossible to sell. This is why I can get it pretty cheap and as I have no intention on building any fixed structures on it, it would suit perfectly as a boat storage location. After doing some calculations I think a spot for a boat would be only a few hundred Baht a month for a small dinghy, to aorund a thousand Baht per month for a large Cat.

Oh, and I would even offer toilet and shower facilities!

Hope to hear from all boaters on Samui.

These are the only reasons I have not bought a boat here yet, hope your plan works out for you.

  3. If you are going to live in Thailand, Canadian Thanksgiving will become something you hear about on emails from friends. Unless you get an oven and make all the stuff yourself.

For those who asked Canadian Thanksgiving is the same basic principle as the American one but not quite so history orientated. Just a day to be with the family and have a big feed. I think the Canadian one is earlier in the year because it represents Canadian harvest time which we have earlier because we are further north. I think we just saw the American's having a day of thanks and said hey, that's a nice idea.

Canuckamuck, I just wanted to say what a awesome name that is. :cheesy: too funny.

  4. We tried the one in Chaweng next to McDonalds the other day.

Thanks for the info, we'll get ourselves to the Starbucks next to BigC early doors tomorrow.

Do you know if they do coffee intravenously? :D

    Matt.

They have straws available, I don't think they'd care where you stick it........

    :lol::lol::lol::cheesy:

  5. I just dug around quickly but if my info is correct the rig that was contracted to NuCoastal before ( for 90,000usd per day)

was a Jack up with 300' rated water depth. Hull length would be aprox 238', Breadth 213', Max leg length 410'

and has woolslayer derrick aprox 160'.

56 onshore blocks and nine offshore blocks in the Gulf of Thailand spanning 235,606 square kilometers were offered in the the 2007 concession bidding round.

  6. Bout being guilty or comiting any crimes really has nothing to do with all of this. The US does not value him as such a high intrest target because

of his criminal or suspect activities but for the work he has done for them in the past and that knowledge, and the same goes for Russia.

both countries don't care what he has done, if they did they would had done something about it long ago but at that time he was to much of an asset.

  8. What a difference a disaster can make; wakes all the NIMBY's up.

I worked out of Samui last year on exploration projects for one of the principals at the center of this 'news' story and the fishermen were the most cooperative we have seen for a while. Hugely successful project thanks to the cooperation from the local Governors offices and local community liaison people that had been working with my Clients team, taking almost 10 months to draw up the Environmental Impact Assessment that was approved by the relevant department of the Thai government.

Apart from the excellent chaps at Thai Immigration that helped expedite our offshore crew changes so efficiently through Nathon or the check-in staff at Bangkok Airways, how many of the participants in this 'protest', or Chaweng beach jet-skiers or Koh Phangan stoners Full Mooners noted our presence last autumn? Anyone.... anyone...???

PS. Crusty, your data shot in 1970 was sh!te. Glad I didn't have to pay for that!

I could use a rig Job close to home! :)

  9. Detox on the cheap? Do it yourself.

I don't know if this is info 100% correct but I was told the best way to detox or clean out

your system is to fast for 3-4 days and drink loads of water. would be cheapest also I think.

I never even considered fasting before but I tried it once and it was not as difficult as people think.

If your worried about your liver have a look at "i drink to much" fourm, they are always talking

about milk thistle being good for your liver. there are couple pills that are recomended quite often

but I don't remember the name.

  10. I can't coment on Tourists Pouring Into Samui other than traffic never seems to slow down, but maybe pouring out.

I just left for work and on my way out of the country, the flight fr Samui to Bkk was full (airbus) and

passport control in Bkk leaving the country was packed as well, most people I've ever seen there,

actually had to wait awhile in line.

  12. Matt,

I have a 650 Ninja also, great fun.

Where did you pick up your exhaust? was thinking of getting an Arrow for mine.

The ride sounds like it was a blast.

    Cheers

I was lucky enough that a friend of mine was in the States and was willing to bring it back for me. I think they're about twice the price here. The change is has made is amazing, mid-range is incredible, the sound as well... :)

That's cool, looks great. I think I may do the same then, get one brought over.

    Thanks.
