  1. "H&R block charge about $250 for the most basic tax return with basic W2 form salary only." - False. I worked for H&R Block for several years. The return you describe would be free. A married couple with a couple of W2s, who own their home with a mortgage deduction and a couple of kids - it may be that high depending on other stuff.

I am not an H&R Block advocate - I highly recommend TurboTax if possible in your situation - just wanted to straighten out an error.

    Cheers.

    TurboTax is stellar

  2. Wow, .001% of americans renounced their citizenship, eh? sounds like an epidemic only a UK publication could come up with. lol. UKers have been obsessed with bailing out of their country since the days of hips and scurvy and the use of limes to help ease the effects of scurvy.that's no reason to assume that citizens are bailing out of other countries like the USA just because they've been doing such for 1000s of years. I dont go to the UK, been there once.I guess residents just dont care for the place as a general rule and bail to other countries. spo be it. la dee dah. I dont know a single fellow american looking to get out. what would you people call it? bullocks or something?

Whats with all the vile anti-British comments ?

But personally know a few colonial cousins who would give up their "land O free" passports up in heart beat if they could, but they cant simply because they do not have dual citizeship or easy access to another nationality and the reasons, Tax is one thing and the belief the US has turned into a facist bully boy country which is fixated on invading other countries (their words not mine)...thumbsup.gif

but you keep waving the flag dear boy...white picket fenches and apple pie and all

    I

not anti-British comments. Perhaps anti-publication comments in which this bbc happens to be UK based. Just pointing out that brits are spread about Thailand and all over the world. It looked like a pretty posh country in my short visit there decades ago.The folks jut seems to be international movers and shakers and thats cool.but the USA citizens are not that at all. We just tend to stick to our country as a general rule. I didnt but the vast majority do

  3. create a shortage and thus a price increase. this stpidity over holding stock back until the price increase goes into effect is well stoopid. who wants to lose sales. fools.what you do is buy well in advance large quantities and sell away.I was a retailer and did this for a living. whats being done here is mindless stuff

  4. You DO need to take the DRIVING test if your license is expired AND the written test.Dont let anyone tell you that you dont because from personal experience you must take the driving portion again if yours expires beyond the 2 month grace period. this is a FACT. learn it, know it, live it. I made a special trip there just this year to get my license. now let me tell you to save you some hassle and you can thank me later. you need all kinds of new documentation PROVING you live at the CA address that you say you do. go to their website and find out what. it aint pretty or easy and was mandated federally 2 or 3 years ago almost as a federal ID program. watch out.i almost didnt get mine. the good thing is that a portion of the documentation you need to show only one while other stuff like credit card and utility bills in YOUR name you show every 5 years. here is where it gets fun. an expired license gets you NOTHINGi.ALSO LET ME ADD that the eye test machine is like looking at balls of fuzz so have fun with that one.I failed the 1st try. my eyes are perfect, never worn glasses and I'm 51. fun stuff that drivers license nonsence. I was lucky that I'm in a lenient state with no sttate tax. I hate to think what CA is like. you'll be glad you read this post or you may hve wasted a trip. I wasted one but fortunately I had 1.5 years b4 expiry and came back. NIGHTMARE

  5. In another thread, someone mistakenly said that US SS checks (deposits in my case) are about $1,400 per month. I corrected the poster and said that mine are about $2,500 which was about 80k baht. They can vary from -0- to about $2,500 depending on how much you paid in, which depends on what income bracket you were in over a course of years. $2500, roughly, is the max.

I never said that was all the money or investments or income I have. I spoke only about Social Security checks.

I have a friend who is worth about $100 million US dollars. His income from investments is about $6 million per year. He still loves to get his $2500 each month because he has paid Soooooo much in income taxes over the years. thumbsup.gif

But in the end ,dont say thailand is cheaper for you, because youre talking out of youre arse ....

And that lady teacher friend of yours who earns 30.000 baht per month and is living way beyond her means is living on your means ,i 500.000 for a holiday and such in april ,are you starting a new country there or what?yes and the boss from microsoft also likes his social security checks.

You really need some lessons in reading comprehension before you state what I wrote. I said that all in, including my nut in the US and my trip to LOS, I probably spent about 500k in April. I actually didn't keep track of what I spent in LOS.

My teacher friend earns 30k pm and bought a new house on the new house scheme, a new pickup on the new car scheme, has a credit card and a smartphone and can barely afford to eat. What does that have to do with whether an expat, staying out of debt and budgeting carefully, can live on 45K?

I'll say it one more time. If 45k is all someone has, and I hope he also has savings for medical emergencies, etc., and wants to live in LOS, he could do it just as easily as he could live on that in his Western country.

I'll also say again that I laugh at guys who boast of spending 100k pm as if that's a big deal. They shouldn't hold themselves up as better than.

Now, stop stalking me from thread to thread and misquoting me please.

a lot of perspective is lost after living in LOS for a number of years. Yes 100K/month to some here is a king's ransom salary. LOL. totally lost

  6. compared to where? for me no it is not suitable. My son went to a top grade USA public school then graduated from an ivy league school. he now has a great job making huge amounts of cash and a great future. thailand never crosses his mind except when thinking about me. Would I trade that for him going to school in Khon Kaen? LOL, no way. my son is zero % thai and 25 y/o now

  7. I agree with the just press cancel for the insurance post, but also the change in flight times without updating their website. They don't accept domestic credit/debit cards blink.png whereas the rest of the world does, so took myself along to my nearest agent to find the fare had magically increased by 1700 baht. I've heard you can pay at 7/11's. How? Can't see that option on their page.

I never had a problem using a credit card. But they do charge you a fee for using the card.

thats an understatement (the charging of a fee)

  8. "Doesn't work properly" and "Rip you off" are not one in the same.

the OP is not referring to the website not working properrly. he's talking about how it's designed to get you to buy things like flight insurance by default and if not alert you just bought whatever it is they shove down your throat by default. be extra aleret on all the bs on the site designed to get you to pay more. good job alerting everyone OP

  9. well sure the americans run and own it but censorship and the internet goes back long b4 thaivisa and is essential (AOL comes to mind). 90% of the posters and users of thaivisa are lymies or some sort (this includes aussies). they represent the vast majority of the farang population. As for quick answers to queries yes there generally are and normally helpful. My own personal experience with asking questions when i 1st came on here was lousy though. it was 'if you dont qualify for a visa type then go home" type responses. it was very useless in those days 2004 or so. it changed a lot over the years for the better

  10. I am 58 and I am in the top 10% income bracket of the USA. I am far from a loser. I could buy this forum 10 times over.

I'm 10 years younger and might be able to buy one thread. My salary would probably be minimum wage in the USA. Having a lot of money means one thing only - you have a lot of money. Sounds like you have low-self esteem. If you suddenly lost all your wealth, couldyou still be a 'winner'?

trust me your salary would not be 50% of the US minimum wage.no doubt you wish it were

    I'm impressed.

Are you sure you have a good idea as the the value or worth of TV?

Doesn't appear to be a small change operation at all.

those reports are all BS. I had a bunch of .coms in the past that were valued a lot more than that combined.
