  1. Imsuwan condo on the door step of Doing Suthep. 6500 baht and simply MASSIVE with the best views of Chiang Mai around.

Sent from my i-mobile IQ 6A using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

    this?

    chiang-mai-sang-serene-house-apartment-1

    chiang-mai-sang-serene-house-apartment-1

not so cheap actually: http://www.sangserene-house.com/en/room-rates (18k for the 70 sqm apartment with 8 BATH PER ELETRIC UNIT <deleted>!!!!)

but it does look amazing indeed!

What about % of farang occupants there? Not being racist or anything but I need to keep a social life and don't speak thai good enough to have thai friends with whom I can have long and deep conversations!

awesome, yes this is where i would go if i were thevOP. what r u waiting for?

  2. Beer/alchohol prices go up yearly once or twice. this has been going on for probably 50 or more years. You know its going to happen so best is not be surprised anymore. as a retailer in the USA for over 30 years I saw it happen with tobacco and beer. It was taxes 90% of the time. the price of this stuff is way out of hand (of couurse Thailand had to follow the US lead as did every other country). I quit 2 years ago. Just got tired of the increases. Life is better now and a whole lot cheaper. cheers drink up.

  3. sounds like a unique reason you came here OP. No it wasn't my reason or perhaps it was in a roundabout way. I came to visit an exec friend in Hong Kong and he brought me to Thailand a few times for holidays. I must say I wasnt impressed, reason was probably the way he threw money around like it grew on trees. 3 years after that I came to BKK to get a visa for another country and found out it took 3 days. I stewed and moaned because in my mind I hated bkk and thailand (or didnt care for it much). it was during the wait for that visa that I discovered I liked BKK and thailand. I think it was because I was not with that original guy who brought me here. I ended up burning the tickets to the country I got the visa for (India) and stayed in bkk for 2 weeks and never looked back. never did go to India, never will go either. strange how things work out sometimes. my life has followed this kind of pattern. meeting my wife 7 years later was similar. life is stranger than fiction

  4. what do her looks and body dept have to do with her obsession with a samsung phone? oh I get it, thats why you put up with her obsession. Sounds like a lame relationship that wont last. nothing personal just my opinion. oh and u said an 8 in looks and bod dept? that doesnt sound like its worth a whole lot esp in this country. I have a 10 in both and I dont have to put up with any such BS

  5. Odd, I came here 4 years ago with $2500 and have never left. I have no rich family/friends, no assets back home, no investments to cash in (I lost everything to escape from my last divorce to a farang woman). However, I have never had to sleep on the street. Granted, I don't drink or do drugs (had enough in my younger days), I have never been conned or given a sob story (that I bought into)by a bar girl (but I know many bar girls). My wife I met here is NOT hi-so Chinese-Thai with a rich family and 2 MBA's. She is an Issan ex-factory worker and I am the only support for the family as she stays home and cares for our child. What did I do that kept me off the streets?

    1. When I knew I was running out of money I got a job (and I wasn't picky, or arrogant, anything that pays the rent).

    2. I didnt quit my job until I had a new one.

    3. When my job ended unexpectedly I lived off what little I had saved, leaned back, and looked for another job,

    4. I don't loan money I cannot afford to get back (and I NEVER loan to a farang anymore). Only time I was ripped off was by farangs.

    5. I dont shop at Paragon or Emporium, I shop at Big C or the markets.

    6. I don't spend 500 baht on a frang meal because the same amount would buy 10-15 Thai meals.

Now I don't live a rockstar lifestyle but i also dont live in misery. I am happy living within my means and have all my needs met. While I am just being honest and open, I am sure I will receive some type of critism, but my point is, most farang who bottom out here do so because of their own actions or stupidity. For ever case of asset theft or medical problems that spiraled out of control, there are 20 cases of blatent stupidity and arrogance; "Its the 3rd world, I am a European God, what could possibly go wrong???"

As it has been stated many times in this thread, most just don't listen. It is hard for me to feel sorry for them...

its nice that you are proud and you made it 4 years but 4 years is a very very short time and life if very long. good luck I hope you can keep it going forever. maybe you can

  6. this is really great news and I thank the OP for reporting it. I've been feeling a bit under the weather myself and you just never know what can happen in life. sicks can get worse, days turn to months, turn to years and even decades so happy to know about this. good information for the uncertain future. good luck and good health OP

  7. I save all I can and as a cheap charlie, I m not too bad.

I live well below my mean.

I met other guys Mid age who do the same. Just rent cheap room, eat Street food and still work in Thailand or Asia. One guy can live well with less 13000 bahts /per month.

We don't trust our western countries, government are already broke and now print their own money to make you Belive it s ok. Alleluia !

They simply wait for a Santa Klaus who will create millions of jobs all over western countries. This story is ongoing since 2008 and now we are just in a non ending stagnation period with over 100 millions chap in usa who just gave up looking. God bless usa! They need it...

Yes some expats are saving. It's not very hard, instead to buy a house, keep your $, invest in funds/obligation/stocks... , and live with interest. You can even save.

You can work aside or get free money by playing lottery.

yes you live my dream life. I long to ditto your life for my own but I'm stuck with this beautiful wife and home. I think if we tried we could spend less than you though as all our stuff is paid for and we dont have to live in a sweat box. Its a mansion baby on 3 acres. Oh boy lots of fun. but my prob is I love AC and spend 2500 on electric but I feel sooooo coooool baby. in my next life I do your trip though. sounds wonderful

  8. forget it. if it was so great they'd be here already. ever been into a Big C or tesco? LOL. they have aisles of wasted space of OIL, Rice and EGGS. its a joke. costco wouldnt be caught dead here nor walmart or all the great American retailers. there's a reason none of them are here already. just block it out of your mind and you'll be fine. go enjoy warehouse stores of cooking oil. LOL
