For me it depends upon whether or not I can get an automatic transfer of funds from my NZ bank,

If things keep going the way they are your NZ dollar will be worth nothing... Hope you will be able to meet the requirements anyways. Gad damned bht keeps getting stronger and stronger. Can't wait for this crap to blow up in their faces.

Well, maybe he would like to earn a little money while in Thailand and teaching English is a way to do so.

And then he fills a gap that could be filled by a properly trained and qualified teacher, thus keeping the salaries at a meager 25 000--35 000 bht a month as they have been for the last ten years...

He should go home and do what others do, pay to earn... in other words "go get a degree"

  3. 250 bht is about right. It is a day light robbery what they charge there. Also, they will try to pack the tuk tuk if they can.Real highwaymen those guys. I usually got the price down to 75 bht after haggling with a few of them. You can also walk away and hail one driving by and try to bargain with him. I hate those sons of spayed dogs.

Based on what he wrote, it sounds like his shortfall isn't large. Many people don't even know the combo method exists and think it's 65K per month pension or forget about it. Yes I did assume he could cover a shortfall of 100 or 200K baht.

When you lose 7 bht to the dollar the shortfall is actually quite steep.

It is equal to 20 % more or less... hurts like hell... when will the Thai balloon burst? Hope it is soon.

    Yes in 2 ways.

Multiple Entry Non B issued for short business meetings (no work permit).

Multiple Entry Non B issued for employment, lose the job, cancel the WP, but still keep using the visa.

    How does that work?

Multiple non-B for employment...Lose the job cancel WP keep using visa?

You usually have one day to get out unless you get 1900 bht 7 day extension.

Far as I know multiple entry is paid for after or while processing the visa. You lose your privilege when you lose WP...

    Please explain...

In Thailand, your embassy is not supposed to do that. They should only take a copy of the old passport. According to the law, your passport must be available for inspection by the authorities at all times.

You cannot visit immigration without your passport. It might even get you arrested. You may have to get an emergency travel document if you cannot get your new passport in time for the extension.

Canadian embassy keeps passport and gives it back, after renewal, with a corner cut to nullify it.

You seem to of missed the post I was replying to when you posted only my reply.

Your problem was not the same as others that are posting on this topic.

Nobody has said it is possible to combine income and money in the bank to get an extension based upon marriage.

Sorry... I was trying to clarify the misconception that I had for anyone who might be misled by the lawyer agency... I do sometimes miss the point... solly.

    Cheers Ubon

Any income will be accepted to get a income letter.

Sorry Joe... I also tried the year before to combine small pension from Canada with money in the bank to make a total of 400 000 bht. That did not work either. I asked advice about what the Siem Lagal advertise on their web page because it is fallacious. Sorry OP ain't many options out there.

    Best of luck

That is a grey area. They should allow it.

Foreign earned income can be from more than one source. Many people combine pension and other income to get their extensions.

The problem for some people may be that their embassy or consulate will only provide income proof for pension income.

Ubon, you are still the man in my book. You were actually surprised when I pm'd you about my problem.

Hope they wake up and die right soon...

You friends are wrong. Any income can be used to meet the 40k baht income requirement. There is nothing that states it must be pension income.

Hey Joe! Sorry to go against what you are saying... but if you remember I asked you about this then tried it and got turned down. I even went to BKK immy to the heads of immi and got told it isn't allowed.

I even tried it with combination of salary in Thailand on which I pay tax and that too was refused.

Having tried it I can say first hand it will be turned down. If things have changed please let me know cos I would do it myself.

NOT a disgusting attitude. It's part of Thai culture that if you do some one a favour, they feel indebted to you until they have returned the favour. If a Thai employee works extra hours to help their boss in an emergency unpaid. The Thai boss will feel they owe the employee a favour. This is an aspect of Thai culture that is worth learning to keep you in the good books of everyone concerned.

Being a foreign teacher I can tell you first this does not apply to foreign teachers in Thai schools. Been here working for almost 15 years. You can bank on what I say.

Lots of misinformation on this topic. The intention of the law is this:

    1. If you are working - either paid or unpaid - for anyone else, then yes work permit is required.

    2. If you are working for yourself with the intention to make money, yes you need a work permit.

    3. If you are doing work for yourself with no intention to benefit financially, then no you do not need a work permit.

The first two are basically a catch all for paid work as an employee, volunteer non-paid work or home based informal business. The third applies to things like hobbies or car/home maintenance etc.

The real issue of whether you need a work permit or not to make repairs to your home is whether you intend to sell the house. If you've a history of flipping property than you'll probably need a work permit. If you are just fixing your home to maintain it, then no you will not be in danger of breaking the law.

This sounds good... what if I plan to build a house for me and the wife? I will have two Thai guys help me but essentially I am not going to hire a contractor. I have almost all the tools necessary so I would rather dispense of a shady contractor.

Can I do that without getting in a bind?

...so logically ....you should be allowed to 'work' on your own house....

...unless they can provide you with a Thai that is willing to work for free....???

    ...this is not an employment.....

....nobody hiring...no money changing hands....no 'jobs' being taken away from Thais....

...one would think...a right.....a basic right....

...wonder if anyone is willing to present this as an argument.....

...are you allowed to repair a flat tire on your bike....???

Technically, if you look at the second link I gave, you can't even supervise work being done on you own house...
