I'm amazed that this would be a big deal, as i wouldn't suspect too many foreigners on tourist visa's working in Thailand ..... maybe a few but certainly not a hundred or even 30 ..... ?
More than you think, especially in the teaching industry. Backpackers are what has been keeping the salaries low for people like me who are licenced and certified teachers here in Thailand. I never reported anyone but I sure as hell don't like them working illegally and keeping the salaries stagnant at 30 000 bht a month as the have been for the last 20 years.

What about foreigners who are married to Thai spouses who are government employees? That would be applicable for quite a number of expats, although probably not the ones on OA visas.
They would not be on oa visas. Most likely non b or O visa.

Pagan Sangkom which is the thai social security which covers hospital bills and surgery etc... falang can get it if they work for a thai company... it is not accepted in lieu of insurance as many of us thought it would be... confirmed this at my immi office 2day

Went to immigration in Rayong and asked if social security would be acceptable in lieu of insurance. I was given a flat "NO".
Anyone thinking of using this as I was in case of emergency for visa application... forget it... Sadly

PM me, maybe I know this school or its reputation.
And, yes I would worry that the school did not send you the proper paperwork. This is maybe just the beginning of your nightmare.

Not since about 2008. That was written in a ministerial order done in 2003 but was more less rescinded then but in reality it was never allowed.
I worked and paid taxes for 3 years but had to stop for health reasons las 1st of March...
Extending visa in December... can I qualify for residency anyway?

You only have to be working with a work permit and paying taxes for 3 years not 5 and it has to be 3 years on continuous extensions of stay.
Jo, from what I read being married and on 3 consecutive visas for humanitarian basis qualifies me, no?

He then launched a "four year campaign for justice". Let's all send a big thank you to this Farang for standing up to the injustice. Now we ALL can pay for his campaign
Your ticked off bcos this guy is actually standing up for his rights and ours?
Shame on you! He brought to light something that was already in place. Instead of shunning him you should pick up the cause and support this guy.
Who was the Jewish man from a concentration camp who said, "I never was concerned about my fellow Jews who got picked up by the SS until they came for me." ?

Many claim that without proving it. Hell even the TAT has trouble proving anything. I am not afraid to bash Thailand when it is due, but claiming such a thing without proof to get bashers on your side is IMHO pathetic.

many of us are property owners, why not use the property as the collateral and allow us to use the cash for daily living expenses,
As a foreigner you would be shooting yourself in the foot to use property as collateral, unless it is condos. Anything else is usually bought through dodgy companies with proxy Thai partners.
In a nutshell, I am assuming you are talking about condo owners....

True in Maptaput immigration,Rayong. Might as well be prepared and get someone ready rather than have to scramble like I had to.

They are well known. Clearly, by definition, new applicants cannot use a grandfathered clause, so those who need to know already know.
If true, even if this is not for me, information like this should be pinned somewhere on the TV homepage instead of having people say, 'Yeah yeah some people know about it already...'.
Info like this, if true, is invaluable and should be out in the open.
I personally am interested in anything having to do with marriage visa.
Anyone have anything about this. I already know the permanent residency thing... anything else?

The dreaded time is neigh...
Here is a question I am sure no one here will know the answer to. Will "pagan sangkom" Thai social security which covers hospital bills be considered good enough when it comes time for visa renewal?
Despite being covered for everything with Thai social security, I am sure that I will get screwed upon my visa renewal. I do not think they have made any provisions for this. Furthermore, if I ever have to go do a visa run, I am sure that the consulates will make it even more impossible.
Any thoughts on this anyone?

I was making the 90 day report, another expat making a marriage extension application using the 400K funds method was asked to also provide 3 months bank statements showing sufficient funds to support his stay during the seasoning period.
This never happened to me when I used the 400 000 bht way.
Here's a problem I am facing and wondering how to fix.
I withdraw my money on my credit card because of better bank fees compared to my ATM card and I use it as I go. Normally I only withdraw about 25 000 -- 30 000 because the wife works and this is enough for us to live on.
Can credit card withdrawals be used as proof?
Shoot me for being lazy and tight, but I rather avoid the trip to the bank and I really do not want to pay the occasional bank fees on money I have already paid bank fees on.
Any ideas about my credit card question?

income requirement for an extension of stay based upon marriage at immigration.
Do I need to show the money being deposited in the bank in thailand, or will the attestation suffice?
Thanks ahead Jo

Hi, does anyone know if Canada is one of the cosulars that no longer gives attestations of revenue?
One more question... I meet the 40 000 bht salary from abroad requirement, anyone know if the embassy letter suffices? Problem is that I don't deposit it here all the time. I withdraw as I need, or I use my credit card.
Thanks in advance

People who pay taxes here and social fund for Thai employees Like I do
Before you go blasting the thai social fund better find out what YOU are doing wrong.
I am on that fund and have have 4 serious surgeries paid for already and my only expense was the VIP room.
So before starting rumors about Thai social fund clean your house and do your homework.

I believe you.
Question is why doesn't this duffus go to the navy hospital in Sattahip? Excellent doctors, excellent private rooms and, even if falang prices, excellent price.
I get treated there all the time. Maybe his arse is made of gold and he needs golden treatment.....

Likewise, in the weeks leading up to Brexit, there are many predicting financial ruin for the UK. In the event of a so-called 'hard exit', I suspect that there may well be a short term 'shock' but then life in UK will return to normal (and personally I think the UK will prosper).
As for the changes to the rules for extending 'retirement visas', I suspect that few foreigners will leave Thailand for that reason alone. I suspect that there will continue to be various processes through which extensions of stay can be acquired.
Totally agree with you. I just love how many TV posters here say "that's it for me, my bags are packed". Truth is I would like to actually know how many people actually keep their word and leave.
For me it is like a stalemate where people say things and then daringly stand by and watch who will move first, with no intention of budging themselves.

2020: Crackdown on tourists working without work permits - 50K fines and deportation awaits
in Thailand News

I think that it would be much more attractive for foreign teachers. Korea and China and Taiwan already offer better packages for foreign teachers with much more stringent rules for being allowed to teach. Back home I would be earning more or less $50k CDN a year... do I think they would pay that here? No. But I would be happy with 60-75 000 bht a month rather than the 30k they offer now. The Thai gvt budgets 40k a month for its foreign teachers but the schools can decide what they want to do with this money and this is why it gets watered down... but this is another story.
I wonder... by the tone of your quote whether you are filling a position illegally, or have friends that do...
