  1. someone should go and ask them some hard questions about their new visa rules - especially were they expect someone to keep almost 20k sterling in a no interest current account for 3 months - there is absolutely no need for it, any account were access is available to the funds should be enough

    Tell me more

Or are you taking about the Retirement Visa.

  2. With all the Donations from the Tripadvisor member, this would have to be one of the most supported orphanages in Thailand.

    But in saying this.

There are many orphanages with similar name around Chiang Rai.

Who know who is and what is true.

    just b careful when helping.

You could be just helping the owners of the orphanage.

    Just my 2 cents worth

  3. There is a good Taylor turn left from Changclan Road to on Srisodchai Road it is on the left.

I am not sure of the name

    Have asked daughter.

    Very professional.

    Not a rush job.

    Quality material used.

Will PM you when i hear from her

    Was wondering where they were.

  5. True Vision have sports via the Setanta channel. I get to watch NRL, Rugby Championship, ITM Cup rugby and other games from around the world. Depending on the package selected you can also see American Football, Ice hockey, Gallic football, soccer, boxing, UFC and others.

Personally I dont give a toss about soccer but the other sports are good to watch.

If in the city you can watch vitually any of these at the Down Under Bar which is by the Iron Bridge on the Ping River and also close to the River Market restaurant. Stu is the Aussie owner of the place and a dam_n good guy. Always busy as hell when the finals are on... good tucker too!

Just for those that are not sure where the Down Under Bar is.

It is just down the road from the Demolished Downtown Inn Hotel.

East of the Berger king at the Night Bazar

  6. We have checked several condos and today was the first night in the chosen one (I'll write later about it).

The bliss hotel - we lived there for 4 days when we were looking for condo. It looks very nice. Furniture is new and everything is clean. But Internet is absolutely awful. If you don't need it, it may be a good place - not very far from the center, but rather quiet. From 9000/month.

Hillside 4 - price started from 14000/month (we did not visit rooms, because it is out of our budget)

Furama - rooms started from 4000/day!! Of course it was impossible for us smile.png

Huaykaew place - very old, but price is nice - from 3500/month for air conditioned room

Huay kaew Residence - here are prices and sqm:

    attachicon.gifImageUploadedByThaivisa Connect Thailand1380941365.132721.jpg

It looks nice but furniture is very old, I do not want to stay there with a little child.

Hillside 2 - looks nice, but Internet is very slow. Prices from 6000/month. Located on Nimmana road, there are a lot of cafés and restaurants. 7-11 is on the ground floor.

Hillside 3 is very close to hillside 2 and as the staff said it is absolutely the same building. We did not visit it. I suppose it must be very noisy.

Nakorn ping - they did not lease for less than 6 months :/

Sritana condominium 2 - we checked 3 rooms. Rooms are fully equipped with microwaves, fridges, etc. Too much furniture for me. I think it would be great for bigger families. I am not sure that prices for electricity and water are correct, the girl in the office did not look confident, but here they are:

Baan Thai - rooms are very small, but nice. They did not let us check the internet speed. Internet prices were very high:

Finally we stopped at Chiangmai Lodge - very close to central department store. It looks very clean and cosy. We loved it smile.png Internet speed is high for 500b/month. Rooms are from 4500/month, but we pay 5500 because of 3 moths stay.

    Thank you for sharing

I will keep this for the future, when i hope to use end 2015

  7. You could look at the DownUnder Pub/Bar....its by or near the Iron bridge and not far from the Riverside. Stu is a nice guy and they have several big screens for all types of sports.

Its at the river end of Loi Kroh road.

From the Night Bazar just going to the River.

Past the Demolished Downtown Inn Hotel.

Can not miss the old Hotel is has a shiny iron fence around it on the corner.

Then about 100 years on the right can not miss the DownUnder Pub/Bar

  8. I disagree. Most health insurers in Thailand drop you at 65. As in no insurance cover after 65 even for long time clients. BUPA will cover after 65 but only if you sign up before your 60th birthday.
From Thai Health website "2. Eligible to apply for the first year coverage from 15 days up to 65 years of age, renewable up to 80 years of age for IPD and up to 70 years of age for OPD."

My old neighbor (American guy) was 73 when he was dropped by his health insurance provider in Thailand. Don't recall which one. That was only after they had paid about 3 million Baht in claims for numerous heart surgeries he had. That was also when left Thailand after 37 years here and he went back to the USA.

I have had confirmation direct from a few medical company's.

As long as you join up before you are 65 they will cover up to the maximum on the policy's.

  9. i'm continuously baffled when I see people (adults) looking for "rooms" for rent. i've lived in the USA and even kids going to college look for apartments or houses to rent. In fact, I've never heard of anyone "renting a room"; especially an adult. i've lived for long periods of time in several European countries where people look to rent "flats". but I always find it so strange when adults on this forum continuously look for a single room with a toilet to live in. that would be like spending your time in a hotel room. what do these people do when family or friends come to visit? do they invite them into their "room". where do they sleep? eat?

I live in a motel Room Long Stay

    I have no problems.

It all depends on the person and what they want out of life.

We are different in way of thinking.

  10. No idea where the server is. I get everything through the internet /wi-fi.

the "very good free programs" are exactly as I detailed. BBC1, 2, 3, 4, kids' programs, FILM, Australian TV, Aljazeera, CNN, channel 4 and 5.

I read up on xbmc and looks interesting.

This is the web site for Thaiexpat TV www.thaiexpat.tv

    Thanks for sharing

Will be useful, If i retire in Chiang Mai
