  1. I say all TV readers should go and hijack all the protest sites and act as peacekeepers to keep any coloured shirts out and defuse the situation. To show that we are taking no sides, we must all wear NO shirt at all. Once they see how many TV members there are who want to keep Thailand a peaceful place for other falangs to come and visit, the Thais will realize their minor political grievances are nothing compared to the risk of losing the tourist crowds and their money forever. How many TV members are there? Must be at least 100,000 strong. If we all act as shirtless peacekeepers, the protestors have no chance and will have to back down. Result: A peaceful Bangkok again, and we the shirtless TV members become worldwide heroes. It's a win-win situation.

  2. A little bit further than the Nasa Vegas but a lot more interesting is the IM Fushion at On-Nut and probably not that much further in a taxi to Swampy airport.

It's called Imm Fusion and is 2 blocks from the On Nut BTS and the big Tesco Lotus at On Nut. The public areas of that hotel are quite exotically designed (like Moroccan style) but the rooms are disappointing and small. There was a free breakfast buffet (may not be free any more) but it was only continental pastries and fruit. The swimming pool is so small it's a joke, and the hotel is infested with mosquitos. Proximity to BTS is the only real advantage.

  3. Sunrise tacos and subway...quality same same.....sick.gif

Where to get good quality mexican these days ?.... anywhere in sukhumvit.

You've gotta be joking. Subway is disgusting. You can even smell one from 30 paces. They all have the same unpleasant odour wafting out of them. Subway is the "healthy" (ahem) equivalent of McDonalds. Sunrise Tacos is in a totally different league and is probably the best Mexican you can get in BKK, unless you want to go to a "posh" Mexican restaurant (does such a thing exist?) and pay inflated prices for nice interior decor.

  4. Personally I think it was Sunrise Tacos that busted Coyote. Sunrise is an incredibly successful chain that has opened up several new branches recently (they even expanded into Cambodia) and their food is always extremely fresh, tasty and well prepared, and is also very good value for money for the large portions you get. Sunrise Tacos is pretty much THE Mexican/American place to go to in Bangkok. This is one of my favourite BKK restaurants (though I normally only use the Suk 12 or Terminal 21 branches) and I would like to add that I'm not a shareholder of Sunrise Tacos. Coyote was never as good quality-wise, and their prices were much higher.

  5. Il do it mate, all I want is the bar fine and the 1000 baht I've paid to do the horizontal hokey kokey with her, if she declines the offer you know you've got a keeper all for 1500 baht, I know, i know, am a big softy but anything to help our fellow man. Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Not many men would admit to having a big softy....I am not sure she would like that.

Hey, it's better than a small softy, isn't it?

  6. My advice is that if you're already suspicious enough to want to spy on her activities, don't waste any of your precious money hiring a detective to confirm what you already suspect, and don't waste any more of your time or money on that girl. Dump her and find another. It's not exactly a difficult thing to do.

  7. Most of the advice given is the norm,

and though I'd probably prefer to enjoy the New Years free,

it's probably the best time to catch Immigration at their best,

meaning they don't wish to go through the fuse of processing paper work,

for something they can just collect a fee for,

and be done with the matter.

I'd probably try this time of the year as well to get out,

and not attract more attention than I need,

especially if I wished to re-enter asap.

    Best of luck to you.

    Hope you update the outcome,

as I'm sure most of us have friends who are in similar situations as well.

We are or might be to stuck on ourselves to admit it.

But in truth there's no true crime committed here,

since we didn't jump the boarder,

    we just overstayed our welcome.

Please people try to put the matter in perspective,

and wish those that fall behind well.

Is that so hard to do?

Don't give up the day job. Poetry just doesn't seem to be your thing...

  8. You asked the wrong question. It should have been "Seacon Square - Why Go There?" It's one of the oldest and probably the worst shopping malls in Bangkok, in the middle of nowhere, hard to get to, and although it's huge there's nothing worth buying in the whole place. Are you insane? I hope I never have to go there again in my life! Between MBK and Central World, you have all the mallage you could possibly wish for and you can buy everything under the sun... Or throw in Terminal 21 and Emporium for something a bit different. Seacon Square? Seriously??? Are you insane?

  9. Do any of your family have sensitive noses? If so, I don't recommend staying at the riverside or even within 1 or 2 blocks of it. The Chao Phraya river is one of the most foul-smelling I have encountered in my travels around the world so far. It's also far from attractive, being a dirty brown colour and filled with debris. Local infrastructure in the immediate river area is also not so good. Step outside your hotel and you might well have trouble finding a decent restaurant or other service shops (e.g. massage, 7-11) which is never the case if you reside on Sukhumvit. Therefore, riverside hotels not only tend to be more expensive than they should cost due to their "premium" location next to the (stinky) river, you'll also end up spending a lot more on taxis to get to the areas where your services, shopping and other attractions are located. I would not recommend staying there myself, unless you're a real river enthusiast.

  10. Why not do it in Singapore instead? Flights from BKK to SIN can be found cheaper than BKK to KUL, hotels and food will be more expensive than KUL when you get there, but overall it's a much more clean, pleasant and hassle-free place to visit for 2 or 3 days. Getting the Thai tourist visa is dead easy at the Thai Embassy on Orchard Road in the heart of Singapore's shopping district and personally I can't stand the overcrowded, dirty, chaotic KL and the rudeness of its people. Pay a little more and have a nice break in Singapore, just don't take your wife/GF because it's a shopaholic's paradise.

  11. Bangkok's not exactly famed for being filled with romantic locations. Take her/him up to Chiang Mai instead, some romantic places there even inside the city centre but many more if you go to the suburbs and the Botanic Gardens or take a trip up the hill to Doi Suthep or even further afield to Doi Inthanon, etc.

  12. I have a related question. Next week, I'm entering Thailand without a visa (UK citizen) with a return to the UK six months later. I know I have to make visa runs (first one after 1 month) but do I *ALREADY* need to have an onward ticket within one month *BEFORE* I depart from the UK, in addition to the return I have arranged for 6 months later? I'm flying with Qatar. Has anyone from the UK been denied boarding by Qatar having a return ticket later than one month while not having a Thai visa? I *THINK* just having the return at any time should be OK, but I don't want to have to rush and book a ticket and print it out at the airport check-in to avoid being denied boarding!
