Why were you sitting on the wing? Is that some kind of new ultra-economy class that United just introduced?
-
Ah, saw the headline and thought you had left it lying in your room before inviting a lady of the night over and falling asleep drunk...

More to the point, why would you want to use a Visa CREDIT card to withdraw cash from an ATM? You start paying interest on it immediately and the cash interest rate for a Visa card is even higher than the purchasing rate, so you'd generally be paying well over 20% interest on that cash withdrawal until you pay off your credit card balance. A debit card is the best way to do it. I know in Bangkok you can just go to the money changing desk at Bangkok Bank and give them your debit card and passport and you can withdraw up to the amount available in your account. I took over 50,000 several times and it only takes 2 minutes.

It wasn't technically a crash...it was only a "runway excursion"
Thai International...Smooth As Silk
So what are the passengers complaining about? It's not every day you get a free excursion around Bangkok included with your flight.

Why would you want to do that? Seriously though, the cheapest and best way is to just get a new girlfriend every time you come to Thailand. That way, you never have to send any money (a mug's game that you can never win) and you get to enjoy more variety into the bargain...

Very restrictive in terms of the salary you will earn! The average salary seems to be about 20 times lower than Norway, but unless you eat cheap Thai street food and live in a Thai-style basic room without air con or kitchen, your costs will definitely not be 20 times lower. My costs in Thailand are about the same as in Europe, because I like to eat Western food regularly, dine in nice restaurants and live in a swanky apartment.

Attraction no. 2 is the only one that makes sense. Living flesh always stays fresh, but all the other things in attraction no. 1 have already been ruined. The new TAT slogan could be the resoundingly honest "Thailand: Get Your End In."

Don't knock amulets until you've tried them. I have been wearing two amulets ever since arriving in Thailand and I have never lost my life yet, so they must save my life every day. But you need to remember you have to wear at least one amulet-activating amulet, because if not, all other amulets will be utterly ineffective. That's where those who meet misfortune go wrong. They wear only a regular amulet.

To be perfectly honest... Don't bother. Most boring country on the planet, horrible and unpredictable weather, and one of the most expensive countries too.

Thailand is one of the most dangerous countries you can visit on the planet. For example, for British citizens, it is the number one death destination in the world. More Britons die while in Thailand than in any other country on earth. Many such deaths can be ascribed to irresponsible and risk-taking behaviour; however, Thailand also has notorious corruption, an ineffective police force, weak regulations in matters of health and safety and little or no enforcement of them, and inadequate infrastructure that can pose many dangers on a day-to-day basis. You can quite easily be maimed or killed just walking down the street, due to the dangerous conditions of the street infrastructure. Never travel to Thailand without a very good travel insurance policy that should cover you for unlimited medical expenses and repatriation to your home country in the event that you are gravely injured.

Do you have a Thai girlfriend or wife? Need I say more?

Yeah, terrible isn't it? But at least with EVA Airline's you still get free grocers' apostrophes. Other airlines cut them out years ago.

That's why they're in Thailand. If they could really do IT, they'd be back home with a job.
BTW, I'm an unemployed IT PM, still looking for work. But I'm looking for Stateside jobs, not in Thailand.
I do it and I make very good money from anywhere in the world, and I communicate with my coworkers only by e-mail; no need for Skype even. My geographical location makes no difference to the type of programming work I do, and I work freelance for various large companies. I have done this around the world for over 10 years. Being in Thailand makes no difference to my work, compared to being in the U.S., except that my cost of living is half or less. I earn the same money I would earn in the U.S. The only slight problem is that most of my customers are in the U.S. and Europe (though some are in Asia), so there's a lag when replying to e-mails sometimes.

Telepathy always works pretty well for me, especially with weak-minded Thais. However, some people need to hone their telepathic powers for years before they are effective on any but the most cretinous of individuals. There are various techniques you can use. Consult your local telepath.

10,000 baht would be the farang price and 3,700 baht is the Thai price. I used to get a much lower price with AirAsia when my Thai GF booked for me in person at the counter (not by phone) than the price quoted to me when I called them, when they transfer you to the "English speaking" section. Like it or not, double pricing affects almost everything in Thailand. If you don't like that system, go to some other country that doesn't practise it.

"Get your coat, love! You've been pulled." Works every time for me in Thailand, after I explain to her that the "coat" part is metaphorical, after I explain that in the West we have an element of rhetoric known as the "metaphor", after I explain to her that in the Graeco-Roman cultural tradition we have an art called "rhetoric", after I explain to her that once upon a time in the west, we had a bunch of geezers (and geezerettes) known as the Greeks and the Romans, and so on, and so on, filling in the gaps in the knowledge of your average Thai girl. This is how you can get Thai girls to go with you for free: Make 'em feel like they've learned something they would never know otherwise. Make 'em feel smart. As they say, intelligence is the ultimate aphrodisiac.

New 20-baht banknotes to have a more 'global' design and new anti-forgery features
BANGKOK, 28 March 2013 (NNT) – The Bank of Thailand will start circulating new 20-baht banknotes on 1 April.
The new 20 baht bills will maintain the same size and color as the current bills, but the graphics have been revamped to have a more modern and global look. New anti-counterfeit techniques have also been implemented, which will allow the visual-impaired to more easily identify the bills. Note counters and machines that receive cash will also work better with the new bills.
The number 20, written in Thai numerals, is transparent on the bill and this attribute can be easily checked by shining light onto the bill. Green-color stripes embedded in the bill will show on the backside of the note, and they can change color from green to purple-red. Embossing is present on the note to allow identification by touch. An image of two dark-green flowers on the note will also help the visually-impaired to tell the note apart.

People! They're unveiling them on ***APRIL 1ST***. This is clearly a joke, and not a very funny one because they should actually be unveiling a 5,000 baht note. You can't buy anything with a 20-baht note any more, but there are always dozens of dirty torn ones in your pocket, so they should be withdrawn. On the other hand, try going out to a half-decent restaurant in Bangkok these days and getting change from a 1,000 note on dinner for 2. This is why a 5,000 baht and, yes, even a 10,000 baht note are necessary these days. The highest denomination note in Thailand at the moment is worth only £22, which is a joke in itself.

"2 Uncooked pork loins
Thai -£0.60
UK- £3-5"Tell me where in Thailand you can get 2 pork loins for 26 baht? In Baan Outinthesticks, perhaps? You can get a large pork loin for less than £1 in supermarkets like Aldi in the UK. Where do you get 2 loins for £5 in the UK? Harrods? Also, in the UK, package sizes and meat cuts are larger than Thailand because people eat more. The price may seem more, but you're getting a lot more grammes in each pack. Gramme for gramme, I doubt Thailand is cheaper except maybe for chicken. Decent fish is much more expensive in Thailand! Another thing is that UK supermarkets always have multibuy offers. So if you have enough storage space to buy 2 or 3 packs of something, it can be half price. This in my view makes the cost of meat considerably cheaper in the UK than Thailand, not to mention the quality of meat and the hygiene of preparation and packaging is a lot higher in the UK. All meats just taste a lot better and fresher to me in the UK than in Thailand.
"Rice 10kg
Thai £8-12
UK £20-35"Why would you want to eat rice in the UK when you can get much healthier local staples like potatoes, bread and even pasta at much cheaper prices? Have you compared the cost of pasta, bread and even potatoes in the UK to Thailand? They are way cheaper in the UK.
If you're eating plain Thai white rice every day, you're ruining your health and increasing your risk of diabetes. You may as well eat toilet paper to fill up your stomach, because it's just as nutritious. Good types of rice like brown wholegrain rice, long-grain black wild rice, etc., are MUCH MORE expensive in Thailand than the UK, that is if you can even buy such rice varieties anywhere. Thais are not educated about nutrition and consider any rice other than plain white rice to be inferior. My ex-girlfriend would not even try brown rice when I bought it, because she thought it would make her skin turn darker.
"Loaf of bread
Thai £0.50 - £1
UK £1-£2"On bread, it comes down to a question of quality and authenticity. Even so-called "European artisan" breads are usually terrible quality fake products in Thailand. In fact, you can get a really excellent malted wholewheat bread full of seeds, dense filling bread with a great taste and texture, for 90p (39 baht) at Sainsburys. The same price in Thailand buys you the "Farmhouse" brand of rubbish "wholemeal" bread which is just white bread loaded with sugar, salt and additives with a few grains added to the mix, truly horrible "bread" which to be frank isn't even worth 20 baht a loaf. You can eat a whole loaf of Thai bread and not feel full. Any kind of bread approaching real European standards of quality ingredients, taste and texture costs 100-150 baht in Thailand, and you can only buy them in places like Central, Tops and Villa Market. You can even pay 60 - 80p for some very nice breads in the UK, at places like Sainsburys, Aldi, Morrisons, etc. Decent bread is at least double the price in Thailand, and never the same quality as the UK.
"Fruit and veg generally half price or less"Again, I find this to be completely wrong. Perhaps if you buy in local outdoor markets it may be as cheap as the UK, but in any large supermarket I find prices of fruit and vegetables to be much higher than the UK, especially for imported produce. In the UK, imported produce from all over the world is still competitively priced. Of course, the very limited range of local Thai fruits like mangoes, mangosteens and papaya are cheaper than in the UK, where those fruits are rarely found luxury items.
"In summary:
Thailand is still much much cheaper living cost."Only if you rent or buy a house out in the sticks, and eat only local food from places where Thais buy them and go without imported foods from your own country, which cost at least double and often three or four times the price you would pay in the UK. I know I would go crazy if I had to eat only Thai food every day. For one thing, the amount of salt and sugar added to most Thai foods, not just in restaurants but also any processed Thai foods, is extremely unhealthy. Imported processed foods offer much higher quality standards and are more healthy than locally produced Thai processed foods, but are unaffordable being double or several times the price in their country of origin.

Miss Saigon
Yes! That could be a very clever and relevant way of starting broaching the subject of "maybe I need a bit of time alone..." to your Thai GF/wife, and she will understand better with that play in mind.

Who designed your floor plan, a 4-year-old or your wife? For starters, having the eating area NEXT to the kitchen seems to be a no-brainer, and I could go on... Terrible plan.

I've stayed here: http://bangkokomni.com/
About half-way down Soi 4: 7700 for a week in a studio and if you can afford it, then the one-bedroom places are huge.
Considering they will rent to you monthly for 15,000 (CDS Property in basement of Omni), why would you want to pay 7,700 for a week for the same room? Other rental companies with offices in the same building will rent you a similar room for 25,000. Omni is not worth more than 15,000 a month, quite frankly. It's overrun by Kazakhstan/Uzbekistan hookers, their pimps and shifty Arabs in white robes. For 15k it's OK though, given the location a 3-minute walk from Nana, 5 minutes to Nana BTS, large pool, well-equipped gym and spacious rooms.

If you don't have anything constructive to say don't post. You have no idea of my financial situation and what I'm doing and can't know what I can or not afford. I have a Thai wife and still working on the business plan, so yes I need to ask to get information about costs and prices.
All I'm asking is if we can find this information somewhere or if someone has already dealt with The Mall or Central and knows some numbers. If not I will just ask her to look for it.
I got as far as "I have a Thai wife..." and then any thought of business plans or financial prosperity went out the window. Wishing to be financially successful in Thailand, there's ONE thing in particular you should never do.
-
Don't bother asking, because as a falang, you definitely can't afford it in ANY major mall in downtown Bangkok. Remember the old saying "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it?" Also don't forget the even older saying "As a falang, your price will be at least double the Thai price."

I love your posts, Sandman77. Your intelligence always shines through. Who doesn't wish he could earn as much as 500 baht a day?
