  1. some people have no clue how the judicial system works.

The lawyers where sentenced to jail time because they where found guilty for contempt of the court.

Not the government was disbanded, but the PPP was dissolved and Somchai banned from politics, because the court ruled they are guilty. (okay a result was the end of the government)

Jatuporn and Karun are not found guilty yet, there wasn't a trail. DSI does just investigations, but not the judgements.

detention while awaiting trial isn't a form of legal punishment.

If the court see no reason that the accused pose an imminent danger for the society while in freedom and will not jump bail, why a detention? and that doesn't mean that they cannot be sentenced to jail or what ever penalty in a coming trail.

Trying to bribe the courts is a bit contemptuous...

The Supreme Court sentenced three key

members of the legal team of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra

to six months in prison each yesterday over the two-million-baht snack

box incident.Lead lawyer Pichit Chuenban, legal assistant Supasri

Srisawat and the coordinator of the legal team Thana Tansiri were found

guilty by a panel of three judges of contempt of court in the precincts

of the court. Each was given a six-month jail term. The trio also face

criminal charges under Article 144 of the Criminal Code. The panel

chaired by Supreme Court vice-president Mongkol Thapthiang suspects

they were trying to give a bribe and has assigned the court secretary

to lodge a police complaint. Source: Bribery and corruption court cases in Thailand

As for the reds brothers, yes, if they can show they are not a public threat and are bound to stay by other factors, the court would not see a reason to deny bail. Jatuporn probably explained he could not leave because of his future arson/incitement engagements, and demonstrated he was not a public threat by promising not to burn down the courts, ... if released on bail.

What is your point in quoting that article about that lawyer case?

key words: "guilty by a panel of three judges of contempt of court " ... and "trio also face criminal charges ... suspects they were trying to give a bribe... lodge a police complaint"

repeats what i have said: 'guilty for contempt of the court.'

Do you know what happens to the criminal charges for trying to bribe the court? was a police complaint filed? was that followed by a trail? do we have a final judgement on this? Were the three lawyers found guilty violating the criminal code? What was the sentence?

Monkey sees, monkey does ... and they fled to Dubai! No way Jatuporn will stay and face the music.

You mean, that will be most likely a case an organisation like Interpol would not consider as actually crimes to condemn but nothing more than politically motivated judgments?

  3. That's what I would have thought. The Thai courts are a lot fairer that most here give them credit for. Thaksin's lawyers were caught in a bribe. Somchai's, Thaksin's brother-in-law, government was disbanded. Now here, DSI can't keep these guys from getting bail.

  4. Meanwhile the UK and Aussie stooges rot in jail, sorry-o boys Thaksin does not give a flying fark about you halfwits.

FYI. it is the decision of Thai courts to grant bail or not. Thaksin have nothing to do with it.

    how witty you are?

One of your role models this Karun guy, Mazeltov?

    Bangkok's Independent Newspaper

    ???

What you mean? Cannot make much sense of your comment.

what i have to do with that Karun guy? Why he should be my role model? care to explain?

btw. getting crazy in parliament isn't only a trait of Karun. Here is a more recent case involving family members of Deputy Suthep. So what is your point?

Pheu Thai MP Chaowarint Latthasaksiiri won the approval of then Deputy House Speaker Samart Kaewmeechai, a Pheu Thai MP, to submit the interpellation.

Democrat Party MPs cried foul, saying Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban had already submitted a letter to inform the House that the government could not explain the measures for dealing the protesters as the rallies were still going on.

After both sides hurled shouts against each other, Democrat MP Shane Thaugsuban rose up and rushed towards Chaowarin, but another Democrat MP stopped him and dragged him out of the assembly hall.

After the turmoil broke out, Samart ended the House meeting at 2 pm.

Do not misinterpret. Yes it is a Thai court decision. The comment you refer to opinions that the farangs cited would be regarded as (to put it politely) collateral damage by the Thaksin forces...though an unfortunate embarrassment nonetheless.

Thaksin has a Lot to do with the issue as we all know he is bankrolling this entire circus

Omfg, really?. I didn't know that.

Thanks for sharing your insider knowledge. That definitely boost the quality of the debate here.

  6. ^

of course, there must be something wrong with that poll, that doesn't show a 99.56% support for the Abhisit government. You should call immediately the authorities and demand the arrest of the suspects, the poll maker and anyone who didn't vote for full support when asked.

It's SoE, how can they dare to say something or publish something like that. They only want the government look bad.

Insurgents, terrorists, thugs, treason, criminals. disgusting.

  7. mazletov, in a directly related matter, how about the article you presented linked to Foreign Policy magazine, published by the Washington based Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (a serious organization), which I'm sure you read regularly :) which was suddenly pulled by the publication and the Endowment and which yet to reappear in its monthly journal. I myself do read FP zine regularly.

Try instead this Carnegie FP zine blogspot link which hasn't suddenly been pulled:

    http://www.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2010/03/11Thaksin_stirs_the_pot_once_again

And this FP magazine spot was written before Thaksin the Terrorist Torch set his Red flamethrowers loose on Bangkok.

Sorry, your link, it says: "The requested page could not be found."

and i doubt that the FP would make such claims that the dead resulting from Thaksins order to create 'a few more red martyrs'

Anyway you could try this instead:

Listen what they said at the European Parliament about the Abhisit government, the crackdown, the censorship, the violation of basic civil rights ...

Btw, did you know that Fabien Baussart, the chairman of the Center Of Political And Foreign Affairs in Paris, where Thaksin was supposed to hold a speech, is also an editior of Foreign Policy Edition Française

  8. Would people have preferred another coup? Abhisit, he's the man!

    The man for who?

Recent polls show that the Abhisit government has only the support of 24% of the people.

the majority chose to give a thai style 'no' answer.

Abac Poll: Majority named themselves as silent group : National News Bureau of Thailand

Not even close enough for an accurate sampling of national sentiment.

17,000 over 17 provinces would just barely be enough for a valid polling.

    Majority remianed silent... or did you miss that? This makes it a opinion piece, and lets see ;

    WHO PAID FOR THIS SAMPLING?

Thai people don't like to say 'NO'. they give a more diplomatic answer. do you know that?

  9. The bullet wa sof the type used by the Army - no one is seriously suggesting the reds shot into the temple are they? that would be incredulous in the extreme and in very, very bad taste and I don't believe even the most hardened yellows on here would claim that.

    I suspect they did.

hmmmmm People have thought since April that Sae Daeng's ronin were responsible for the headshots on the reds that came from inside the area they controlled. It has been said since before they came to town that they needed Red red blood on the streets to force the government to fold nd that they would use ANY means to make sure that happened. Why wouldn't we believe that the people responsible for grenading people at random would hesitate to further Thaksin's political aims but making a few more red martyrs?

If you don't see this as a POSSIBILITY then you really have not been in Thailand very long OR studied Thai politics at all.

hmmmmm People have thought since April that ...

hmmm. who are these people who have thought that? You? and some other of usual "experts" here at this board? anyone else?

  10. EC well-prepared for next general election

  11. this page have some photos how one million dollar in 100 dollar bills might look like:

How Much is Inside a Million Dollars?

Again, what does this have to do with this thread? 1 million dollars is over 32 million baht. The baht has 1,000 notes and have dollars $100 notes... Still amazing... Why bother? I guess math isn't your strong point, but then again what is?cool.gif

just to get the picture what kind of bag you would need to carry one million in cash in bills to 100.

    million08.jpg

    million20.jpg

    million13.jpg

10 million baht in 1000 baht bills will not look that much different. you will need a bag of similar size.

and who knows if it had been all 1000 baht bills.

i thought it will be self-explanatory, but i forget how smart some board members are.

  12. Democrat downplays buying MPs to join govt

BANGKOK, 6 June 2010 (NNT) – The ruling Democrat Party has played down the allegation of spending more than 10 million THB to buy MPs from the opposition Puea Thai.

Spokesperson to the Democrat Party Leader, Thepthai Senpong, dismissed the news report alleged by Puea Thai Spokesperson, Prompong Nopparit. He said the ruling Democrat Party would not behave in such a manner, and stressed that the party would not need to buy MPs from other parties.

Mr Thepthai then questioned Mr Prompong back on the sources of such a news report. He said he would like to know which political party bought MPs from the opposition Puea Thai Party.

The change in the coalition government was made after some MPs in the coalition Puea Pandin Party were ousted due to a rift with another coalition Bhumjaithai over the no-confidence vote result. Some MPs from the opposition side at the same time defected to the government.

As for the cabinet reshuffle, the Democrat spokesperson said it was clear, precise, and suitable. He believed that everyone in his party would accept and respect the resolution of the Democrat Party executives because it was made mainly for political stability.

  13. From what I understand, the term foreigner is used whenever a non-white, such as from India or Pakistan, does something, this protects their cultural identity and groups in the rest of us with them.

Whenever a White does something, terms like "Australian" or "Brit" and so on are used, thus protecting the others and pointing the finger directly.  The only thing I can't figure out is if this is done directly, or is more of a subconscious indicator of the writers' and poster's sentiments.

I guess we will eventually find out, but reading the local media on here is like playing a game of trivia.

    BS and cognitive bias.

  14. Abhisit has said it would take 6 months to recover from the reds' rampage and yesterday in Vietnam he said an early election was likely, so I think we're looking at March or April next year, just before the annual red riots.

Funny thing that Abhisit said exactly the same nearly exactly one year ago. he also said he wouldn't mind to dissolve the house and have snap elections.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday pledged to resolve animosity between rival groups and foster reconciliation in six to eight months to pave the way for a snap election.

"If things proceed as anticipated, then I aim to steer the country out of the present turmoil and bring about normalcy in six to eight months, following which I won't mind dissolving the House," he said.
