A friend of mine wants to spend his last few years in Thailand. He wants to enjoy the nice climate. He is in good health and 86 years old. He has the 800 K to put in a Thai bank. Please can anyone advise me on this forum how and where he can get the necessary health insurance required for new retirement visas.
If have 800k in Thai bank no need for insurance get the Non-O base on retiremnt better to be done from inside Thailand.
Just he come in on short tourist visa and arrange later.
If to get O-A visa first from home country is trouble because reports is they rejecting the foriegn insurance and now seems the mess still havent been sorted.
Actually for long term at that age 86
many people reccomended Elite visa.
It is expensive but at age 86 he might even be force to pay 200k baht a year for the throw away Thai insurance anyway which as they say above, only covers 400k which make no sense to me.
But Elite visa, no insurance, no problem at all can come and go at will which is good.
I did have plan to do this also but like many others i will now plan for another country if i am forced to buy insurance.
A budget for a unknown time of life remaining is difficult and to throw away 100+ baht per year, every year
its just out of the question for
me.
Is a even worse deal if to healthy and live to long will probably have to pay 300k per year for 400k cover!!

Meaning pay your taxes for social security in or for your country being abroad, or save like the dickens and get the useless Thai insurance young while you can. You will not get Thai SS.
Get Thai insurance early?
You must be joking?
You will suggest to pay 40-50k baht each year for 10-15 years for a maximum of 400k cover?
( most probably ill never claim)
And after paying already 500k im then old, the premium doubles or they wont even insure. great.
What sort of income stream does a people have that can pay this money for nothing over many years please tell!

Really? Enough reports of people being turned away when having had 2 or more actual visas, and border hopping has been tough for a long time, so how have they been getting away with it all those years?
One teacher having been caught, also doesn't seem like massive evidence of a grand epidemic.
They doing it for years from the helping of visa agents.
Is usually the Phillipino English teacher.
Not sure how it worked probably the agents push some cash into the right places.
Could even be kickbacks from schools to as those teachers get payed a lot less so directors must love them.
Anyway if they dont have coloured vinyl boards it wont last long.
It never does when if one department will mess with the food bowl of another.
someone will get chopped.
Thats probably what happen to big joke in Bangkok

“It was the worst three months of my life"
Callous to say, but its not meant to be a 4 star holiday.
Yes the conditions is to harsh but part of me must think if western gaols is like this than many will try harder to stay away from them.
At least the one who been there will think again before re-offending.

Breaking news. If you have an OA retirement Visa from outside Thailand and want to renew in Thailand you WILL REQUIRE MEDICAL INSURANCE.
This is currently for the OA visa only and will not effect Non O retirement visas! For more information contact [email protected].I have not been able to confirm this from another source.
nice troll.
it wouldnt suprise if Thailand visa agents have a side-business as clickbait genetators for Social Media sites though.

You really only must step out of MC2 and head right.
If walk the overpass from MC2 to the other side, all of them buses going that way.
maybe bus 3 by memory?
its only less than 10mins in good traffic.
could nearly walk if no baggage.

3 pages and not one answered my question. Do I have to ask it again? When they claim they suspect you of working, what type of work would that be?
Taxi Driver?
Whore?
Professional Agitator?
Goldsmith?
they dont have to accuse you of any occupation.
If well under 40y.o, and live Thailand many years of course they think:
"how is this guy support himself that long time, with no work?"
so they check visa history, look you up and down if they think you are the rich guy who can afford this life
otherwise right or wrong they assume you working illegal or have dodgy ways to make money.
You cant really blame them.
If guys dressed in rags, smell of beer and cigs, heap of tattoos..and lugging a dirty 10 years old backpack..
Thats hardly a profile of guy on a monthly allowance from rich family, or Wall st genius, or international playboy.
Maybe borrow a friends Rolex and they let you in without question?
I always did hand the passport in with left hand and wearing my nice Submariner
and over 10 years of no worry visa
so there might be something to it!

I have experience with them, good and bad. I can also speak Thai so it helps. Anyway, I got my iMac, the b*tch sold my camera though, and also some money I had stashed away 'is gone' - funny you meet a girl who works at a bank, seems ok, live with her for 4 years and then when you want to break up, all hell breaks loose. Lesson learned. Also the police didn't require any money
Good news.
Seems it worked out better than you and a lot of posters expected.
Yes, on the breaking up thing..
as one poster say, always do by SMS when you and valuables are far away!
Personally, if i must do again is while im on holiday far away
even better SMS from my own country, but not say break-up,
just invent some BS about why you cant come back to Thailand.
just not worth the grief really!

Also had good experiences with the cops most of these tough guys here just repeat what they read.
Personally I just sort it out with the cops. I wonder what made the GF turn crazy. Some are crazy to begin with others just used by guys and get angry.
I prefer being a pussy and within the law then open myself up for all kinds of nasty stuff.
Thats some smart advice to go by.
my bad gf experiences usually me or her is a little drunk and neither are not handling the scene very smartly..
sometimes me used to be stirring the pot and giving her some of her medicine but you cannot do that with Thai like you did with western women..no way!
With Thai lady, even she locked you out of your house several times before, and you do it one time to get back at her she will go absolutely nuts!
they are the lessons you learn.
you cannot being hung up on being "right" with them because Thais are always right and never can admit to no wrong
no matter if its black and white you tell them they are wrong and they very well know they are wrong, yet they only just get into an angrier rage!
Anyway i think if this guys GF turned crazy, it must be a reaction from something he did
cause they dont just suddenly turn crazy for no reason.
Whatever minor thing or decision he did make probably could be accept by a western woman with a little sulk or a few hours of a "silent treatment"
but of course most times the Thai gf reaction to anything minor is WAY over the top of what should be normal!

I wonder how many of the people here who "know" the police won't help have any personal experience with the Thai police.
I know they have the reputation to be corrupt and some prominent cases in the press leave little doubt about that.
But somehow I find it hard to believe the police is always bad news for foreigners.
How many people here have personal experience with the police? And how much of that information if from some guy somewhere in a bar or online?
I must agree. I think a lot of it is people reading BS and repeating the BS to make them look smart.
In my case, many years ago, did a stupid thing while drunk.
The Thai Cops asked me what happened.
There is no witness, so I could have easily BS'd, lied, blamed someone else, but i did tell them the truth anyway.
The result, could have got charged for a few things, but cops say just pay 5k to the person for damages i caused and go home and dont do it again.
It was probably more like 2k damages but i was very happy with that.
GF at the time later tell me, the cop say if i had lied they would have thrown the book at me for drink riding and more but because i told that truth and was sorry they let me off a bit easy.
so my experience of them was pretty fair to be honest but its a long time ago, in a quite area of Prachuap K.K.
pretty sure not get away with it today!

Sorry but I think you first mistake is going to police.
This only get her more pumped up if she find out about that and probably destroy the stuff in anger.
Because my little experience in stuff like this is first thing Thai police to ask you is
"what did you do to her?"
they not believe you and mostly side with the Thai anyway because for them thinking its always the farangs out doing stupid drunken stuff.
So knowing what actually lead up to all this might change peoples advices.
I would say just let her simmer down, soften her up with some few thousand baht worth of gift, then as the many poster said,
Do a BS make-up..get the stuff back and then do some Forrest Gump running.
But Of course if the big stuff went down before and if you did some questionable stuff then maybe none of any advices will work and just accept your stuff is toast!

Ok, maybe not a troll. I actually can believe and see guys doing this with all sorts of incorrect expectations.
Let's get the nicest word out ... very naive, to say the least.
In the first thread the announcement, meeting a bargirl and after 4 days deciding to go on a romantic trip 'to Pattaya', paying her 15k upfront. That was the train wreck in motion.
Why not go to Koh Samed, or one of the nicer beaches after Rayong, or to Koh Chang.
And get to know her better, outside of the red light districts?
No, you have to bring a bar girl you have just met, straight into romantic Pattaya.
This thread now, is just the after math & report of the train wrecked.
If it's all a real story, who knows. But certainly not unheard of. It could be.
But if anything, just plain stupidity and wrong expectations from the guy.
Very bad planned & played, regardless how the girl reacted.
Im going story not true OR very heavy peppered with exageration.
Maybe a good fantasy lesson for the newbie though
"What NOT to do in Thailand"
Actually i think even the newest newbie will have more common sense to give a Thai freelancer 15k up front.
Thats just being a complete kn0b-head!!

Date with Thai girl from Thaifriendly.
meet at ok aircon restaurant in Bkk.
Nice meal, but probably consider it expensive if Thai thinking.
Bin is 890baht for both with no alcohol.
I put 1,000 in the book and went go to toilet
but they staff tell its up the stairs so i decide i will wait for later.
So I turn back and there i see her with the book out fumbling around in the purse for change to make right amount so can pocket the tip!
So not want to confront, I just walk away a bit til she is done.
She say she want to see the view from my appartment is in Ekkamai, so get taxi back.
Taxi is then 220baht.
Im on the left seat so i hand her 300 to give taxi and get out.
I look back in and once again she breaking change for exact amount and profit 80 baht!!
I not usually suprised by much, but to see this kind of thing on the first date!!??
lol
So back my appartment nothing happen as im giving her a cold fish treatment so she will go quick.
When go to leave i start to hand her 200baht for trip home but then pull it back..
and saying
"oh thats right..you already got the tip from restaurant and taxi"
lol
her is "hmmmph"
and a look like when like Thai is smelling Indian curry.

It's not about rocker science, it's about the law.
We just had a thread where a guy invited a girl for dinner and then the guy walked away. (that the short version)
Let's imagine for a minute that they had a dinner for i.e. 4000B. Maybe she does not have the money or maybe she is not willing to pay for an expensive dinner she was supposed to be invited to.
What can and will the restaurant manager do in such a situation?
Can the restaurant call the police to arrest the girl if she does not pay what he ordered? Or maybe she pays what she had to eat but not what he had. That's still the question and I am pretty sure until now nobody answered it for Thailand.
For Thailand i think always the same when a farang involved..
Farang pays because they always think he have no problem about money and the poor Thai was only the invited and wouldnt spend big money on food of their choice anyways.
(If evidenced: look how the foriegner is expected to fined for TM.30 when it is all actually 100% responsibilty of the landlord.)
About the guy in Pattaya...my guess..
Once the restaurant guys hear from the girl what did happened they might say to her:
"ok how much have you got?/what can you afford?"
It makes then a bit of a standoff.
The girl (already have the guys 15k) can say..shes got nothing..
or.. ok i got 500baht..
or.. here i pay the lot..
My bet is she give them a small part of the bill and the restaurant agree that the farang is at fault anyway so they will try the police or finding some way of getting the rest out of the farang.

she can pay with the 15,000 spending money I gave her!!
that was supposed to be for the 5 day trip.
I didnt ask for it back, i just wanted the hell outta there.
hopefully she uses her head and is able to buy a bus/plane ticket with it.
(but to be honest i dont care).
You really think this lovely lady gonna pay any of the bills you left?
lol
For sure she would tell them she got no money, that the no good farang kee-nok did a runner.
i bet she tell restaurant to get police then she tell them everything detail she know about you.
You seem to take this like a joke, obvious you never heard about lady scorned?
and with Thai the problem x100 !!
Probably she also tell them a few lies that you said very bad things about certain Thai peoples.. to be sure you have some trouble.
they do that.
I would not be suprised if the police catch up with you at some stage.
If going through airport again i would find the service of some fast track agent and maybe pay them some big money,
cover the face and hope they get you through without any problem!!!
maybe we will see your next post from Thai jail or detention center and asking how to get cigarettes.

So for visa which i get from my own country how to arrange the Thai company insurance policy first?
Im not sure what the Thai consulate in my country ask for but says nothing on website about any insurance for non-OA for retirement
So if consulate want to see insurance first, i must buy at home?
and then throw it away and buy Thai insurance when enter Thailand?
This is crazy.
Surely it cannot possibly be like this?
