Have you ever tried to sell anything here? It takes for ever. As far as I can tell everybody is either really cheap or really poor. I have sold multiple things on Craigslist in California, everything from kayaks, to many motorbikes, bicycles, cars, etc and everything was gone within one to two weeks......here it was like pulling teeth. If he doesn't want to take a great loss and rebuy, put it in storage.

another reason its hard to sell i noticed people sell household stuff in Bangkok but they expect to get some 90% back of what they paid.

who would wants your scrungy old plates, juicer, vacuum cleaner, cutlery etc

when the cost you ask can nearly buy new?

I don't speak or read Thai for many reasons, but I'm not going to apologize. My wife is not Thai and where I live it's very easy to get by without it... and immigration in Jomtien have always provided English translation on forms on the odd occasion they wanted me to sign.

Whether you can read Thai or not, it or not doesn't change the situation one bit. If you can't read it, don't sign it. I doubt many of you speakers can read it. If you can, I'm impressed.

I think sure most decent farang Thai speaker have learn to read the basic Thai level.

at least enough to not mix what sound the same to new learner, such as ฉัน and ขัน.

Try to learn Thai written in English is ok but never gonna work good,

BUT reading and understanding a COMPLETE Thai document is on a whole different level!
    only the best can do
I cannot imagine to live here so long and not even try, its like you will be like the tourist everywhere you go!
For me, hard to respect anyone who wanna live in my country 10years but not even try!
up to you tho no judgement!

  4. I can see what Thais mean about this.

Usually as foriegners we get all bent up about things we cant change, nor should even worry about.

Plus new Foriegners here and many (from a cretain country) think they know everything and feel their duty to educate all and sundry.

always have big opinion on how to fix everything when in fact they know nothing about the complex issues.

and it doesnt go to well when nobody take any notice of them.lol

I have even seen foriegners here listening to Thai conversations and getting all bent up, ASSuming they know whats being said, thinking the Thais are having a go at them, when in fact the conversation was nothing to do about them at all. thats how arrogant some are..even can think they can understand a language they never before heard lol

think to much. yes, but maybe more like "think up to much BS"

  5. I think most Thais would not allow to throw anything in the bin.

If its my ex she will wash and then soak the chicken in a solution of water salt and vinegars.

It is ok as long as you cook a long time above the temperature needed to kill bacteria.

Thais love to add MSG and deep fry for long time in Palm oil, so i think thats why they will sell like this.

but if it is green, yes to far gone, will still taste crappy, only thing you can do is marinate in embalming fluid!

Someone else should get a smack in the chops for such arrogance ! Many work for 10-15k . Why shouldn’t a GF if she isn’t paying bills in the home! If not it’s a case of lying on the bed playing Facebook and games !

Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

My comment is more in regard to the guy who complain they never see the wife or she never do anything, to tired from long hours working.

Arrogant? well i could not find myself to ask her working so long for the same money what i spend in 2-3 nights check binning.

but yes i also experienced in the FB and lazing about all day like you mentioned.

Up to her, i was told.. At least that dont cost you anything!

    shes gone now though!

Being single is best at least Thai guys been telling me that now for over 10 years.

and yes I will smack myself in the chops quite often when wake up and see i spent 5000 the night before.

When I had 2 small children, back in farangland, my wife gave up work to look after the kids. had a joint bank account.

When my Thai girlfriend and I moved in together she was working as a chef in a restaurant and earning 12k baht per month, 6 days per week, 12 hours per day. Never saw her and she was knackered when I did. For me it was a no brainer that she gave up work. She now takes care of our young son and we do everything together. I give her a small allowance.

    No difference really.

yes congrats on your good life. I believe this is how it should be.

It make me wonder in some of the bad break-up stories you read here if it more the guys fault also.

What kind of farang would have his wife/gf work those hours? for what? $500 a month pfff.

when i did work i get double this in 1 week.

And these old guys with the young wife who probably are mean and constantly pinching for every penny also.

no wonder why they will leave.

  8. I suppose OPs theory is its only because this is Thailand, that giving a girl some spending money makes her a prossie?

someone is trolling here or what?

in the old days, the man went and worked and lady stay at home to make kids and handle (most) the money and bills. ifs nothing new.

anyway some thoughts regard to Thai:

-IF your GF dont work and you think she should exist on no money and begging from you?

give yourself a smack in the chops

-IF you expect or even allow your GF to go work here, and get peanuts, what? 10-15k a month?

give yourself a smack in the chops.

-IF your GF works and gets over 15k month and she asks for money.

-give her a smack in the chops

In my particular experience with HomePro, I was interested in a 75 inch TV.  It had already been discounted from 89,000 to 69,000 (started at 200k a year ago).  I asked about a soundbar and he showed me a couple.  I settled on the one at 8,000 baht.  That's when I said that I'll have the TV if the soundbar is thrown in for nothing.  He called his supervisor who offered me 50% on the soundbar.  "Nope.  I'll take the TV but I want the soundbar included".  Went over to the 'office girls' and got an invoice for the soundbar showing FOC"  Checked the TV through the checkout and Bob's your uncle.  From 8k to 4k to free.

yes i think if sit there a long time they need space for new stock and will give away stuff to move it.

I noticed not much old stuff mark down like that anymore.

A Thai friend tell me many of the chain stores will send out the old stuff to other location where they will discount and sell quicker

I'm calling BS on this claim. Was there maybe a 10% reduction available to anyone which you weren't aware of and they brought it to your attention? Are you claiming that they cut the price especially for you because you haggled??? I don't even think their computer system has the capacity to do impromptu discounts. Mark me down in the extremely dubious column. I speak Thai well, have shopped there a lot, and tried innumberable times to wheedle discounts on major purchases, never with success. Would be extremely interested in knowing if anybody else can report that they have successfully haggled a discount at HomePro.

I will not call 100% BS,

but IF he got the discount it would not be for nothing.

    either it old stock.

    something missing/slightly broken

    no packaging

    is on-floor/old stock

OR most likely they just simply point him to a model thats already discounted.

Thats been from my experience with them anyway but i do know a guy that they gave him some free promotional stuff but he spend like over THB800k to setting up his house.

but no i never heard they would discount any product you chose just from haggling unless above reason

I am surprised at the number of respondents who are spending more than a pittance to live here. In past TV forums, I saw far too many who claimed they lived well on B20k/mo or even less. As with any claim of little expenditure, I wonder what it must be like to not enjoy the things you want--within reason--just because they are expensive. Some say, they enjoy living on the cheap. I do not know if they see it as a challenge or simply have gotten used to living at minimum; however, I suspect for most it is because they have no more to spend. I wonder if their monthly income were doubled; would they spend or save the excess income?

when first in Thailand over 10year ago  i could live on 15k a month easy, but no gf and limited times of funny business.

As you go on and because of boredom, is impossible to go back to the 15k thing once ladies involved.
So yes, Gf's that come and go is obvious dead money but who can be without some action?
you will just be alcoholic if no job, retired and left to your own and Pay to play

Some guys cant understand what/how/why i waste money on what i do here, but one thing, i never lost on a house or business so i now can live good.
Unlike others that lost 3million on assets then they must go back to mamma noodles and fan appartment and cry into the chang beermug. for them they wasted millions and now worry about every 10baht. rediculous.

I had money all along i could have spend but i did 15k budget every month as far as can tolerate because at the time i know it would help to stay longer.
Its like i explain to Thai gf's..you are rich by putting money INTO bank not wasting on cars and hi lifestyle thinking it will impress others.

Even now i can live in decent appartment around 7k a month and happy to save every month 3-8k to spend on other stuff that make life better, compared to others renting 10-15k/month.

Your base cost is rent. Stay on lowest rent as possible that can still live happy and the budget will follow that.

Some FB adverts you see renting larger appartments in the city at 20k-40k/month.
to me that is just rediculous waste of money unless you working earning 100k/month or only stay short term

Get a motorbike taxi you know to go there 6am or even before that to pick up your nr and then you be there at 08:30 when they open you will be one of the first in line i've been there 06:00 in the morning to try to be one of the first but there are already some agents waiting in line to be the first

    i dont get this theory.

what to do for 3 hours wasted while you waiting for the office to open?

may be you finish earlier, but no different to the guy who gets there at 9am and finish around 12

    you still waited 3+ hours!

  13. Why make it such a pain in the butt for hardworking IOs by turning up at what really is on the closing time?

thats not very considerate you know.

If there are many ppl to go,  and they turn you away, then you have wasted all that time and must go again the next day, meaning double transport cost and double time wasted.

not to mention its much harder to get home from C.W at that time of night, especially if raining.

Many say to got early. i even here some will line up from 6 or 7am.

    what idjiots!

a very ridiculous idea since they waste 2 hours of sleep and hanging about not even being in the system.

i dont understand this tactic at all i must say.

I have my own idea what time is bestest and quickest but if i tell you and then every other bugger follows, then my fastest time will soon be the slowest time.

    therefor i must advise you:

go at 9am on a Monday or Friday.

Also If there is any public holiday to fall, then go on the day directly before or after that holiday

    especially if its Songkran

The IO had no legal right to only allow me to stay for 15 days (when the usual rate is 30 days) , She had no right to act in the way that She did .

She made up a rule , which had no legal basis and I didnt follow that no existent rule .

Her opinion that I should only stay for 15 days carried as much weight as a girl from 7/11.

I got stamped in for 30 days and thats how long I stayed .

It really none of her business as to how long I stayed for

Apparently In English its "over-inflated sense of self importance"

and try to argue with any woman is hard and futile..a woman, an IO and Thai..lol forgettaboudit

And unfortunately she does have all legal rights to do all those things because the government set only the basic rule but then give the IOs 100% authority to make whatever decision they wish at the entry point.

actually i think we are lucky that Thai Immigration has not westernised their system so that one stupid decision from these IO idiots is final, cannot be reversed and then they will shut you out for good.

the fact that people are still allowed in after red stamps and even your own story, it seem that many other IOs see things a different way than this xxxx at don muang

The person at the immigration desk was flipping through looking at all my previous visas, he pointed to my visa exempt stamp from April and asked if I overstayed and I politely pointed that its a visa extension stamp. I then proceeded to point him to the Thai Tourist Visa page on my passport and they pretty much just shrugged off and called the other people over.

I didn't have a ticket out of Thailand in order to get the tourist visa, it wasn't a requirement. I did write my tourist visa on my TM6 card and pointed every single person that was looking through my passport towards my tourist visa page.

Ive notice some of these these guys and especially female officer can be very sensitive to the tourist who show up and dont really have experience in how to act when in front of a Thai IO.

Myself, i not try to "show" them anything in passport, especially if it mean you must take the passport from them or put your hands anywhere near or over the counter towards them.

They already did see your tourist visa stamp, so continually pointing to that probably annoyed them also.

They will probably find this behaviour a bit aggressive and arrogant which may intimidate them enough to want to cause you trouble and call the supervisory.

Also i would not try to over explain things.

Most the time they dont understand your accent (another loss of face) and dont even listen anyway so its pointless and just look like you talked down to them..and even to do in the smallest way and you will certainly be toast!

IMO, best to just answer any question polite and to the point with as few words as possible with a slight smile.

Not saying you did like this, but if some tourist have all boxes ticked, a proper visa and no real reason to get denied, but still they are denied, there must be something else going on.

Actually i agree as another poster said. i think maybe the computer flagged you for those visa exempt before they realise you had a proper tourist visa

No. They are not allowed to urin test you for drugs! Period!  They will need a reason for arrest you first before they can perform a drug test. You actually have to do something outside that qualify for being arrested. Such as fighting, stealing, disturbing others etc etc. They are only allowed to test you for alcohol and only if you are driving a car or motorbike of course.

Sir, did you know you replying from a thread 2 years old?

Maybe things change since then with your theory also, last i read that police only have to have suspicion of illegal activity and they can test

  17. OP probably waiting for the several farang guys she been cheating with to come here and say.  "HEY thats my GF"

    555

Could be good idea for a thread to out the cheaters

    but really like the song:

"If you dont know me by now...."

if just dating a Thai lady you dont see often you must expect she playing the field.

a lot of farang guys has a lady or 2, and even then they still be trolling the dating sites..and that is not cheating?

  18. its a clever marketing.

my guess is the cups hold 24oz if filled right to the top but with head on beer its always be short.

the pub were worse scamming in Bkk.

One Thai barman who think nobody watching him

when not much beer gets poured, the first gassy pull he put in a glass and put aside to settle.

later on he will pour the next customer beer into that previous glass with the slops..even if it not the same beer!
