  1. am i the only one who has no idea what the OP wrote? it doesn't make any sense as an English sentence to me. 'has anyone tried to of keen on organising a meeting'? can you lot understand that?

Its called a typographical error, but everyone else semed to work it out.

  2. Cool peeps, stay away... in fact tell all your friends to stay away to, and if ya can please start an email/blog/forum campaign telling people to stay away!! 7+ years on Phuket, no issues whatsoever, loving it!

    So,no problem whatsoever?blink.png

Ok, the real bad changes and overcrowding just started at that time you began living in Phuket.

So you never knew the -GLORY DAYS- rolleyes.gif

You like to drive in nearly never ending Traffic jams on the main roads

and the roads leading from the main beaches to Patong, in Patong, Phuket town and surroundings?

I came 1990 first and liked it until the first years after the Tsunami. Lived for some years in Patong since 98

In the last years, NO! bah.gif To much, to many, from everything! sick.gif

Still visiting friends, but for much shorter periods of time!

    PS

Just today, again a Landslide in Patong at a building site which killed at least one worker.

As it is just reported by a Phuket News site which cannot be mentioned or Linked here.

Steeper and steeper they go up the Patong slopes with their buildings,

for some roads which connect them to Patong center you should have knowledge of Motorbike Trial driving,

to approach them on two wheels! blink.png

This is the SECOND time for the particular hotel - building regs are, nothing over 33 degree incline can be built on. I am not an engineer, but this looks wat steeper. Also this hotel has been in pre-opening for a very long time, already doomed to fail OR somone has made their money clean already whistling.gif

  3. Does anyone remember the Jet ski guy that got smashed by the US marines?

    No. Enlighten us.

Trying to find, I think it was in Pattaya - long story short Jet ski owner picked a fight with a Marine - he was on R&R with the rest of his platoon/group - they odds didnt stack up so well for the local, he lost face........ and a few teeth

Sorry, my Mrs is saying it was not US but UK marine - sorry its so vague but was a while ago

  4. Thailand is now officially the most dangerous tourism destination for Aussies, Brits and Swedes.

As a dual citizen, does this make me twice a vulnerable or does one cancel out the other? either way after 3 consecutive years I am bucking the trend

  5. I got rid of my true visions. I just use Rawaii cable. Its good enough and cheap

I agree, tried True a few times, just not worth the extra money compared with local cable. If you want to watch a lot of football and sports then True is for you. With a little bit of research I can watch my preferred sporting events (F1) online.

    Or goto the pub :)

  6. spam is expensive here? Its considered pensioner food in the west along with beetroots and the cheese wrapped in plastic. I cant believe there is a demand for it in Thailand.

    Makes great crab bait

  7. Lets see how many people respond, then I shall pick a date / tme & we can go from there.....

    It can't work that way.

People will keep adding stipulations like certain dates, or times. Some people will want it in one part of the island and others somewhere else.

These are always the issues that bog the whole thing down until it just doesn't happen.

    You forgot.

Can I bring the sprogs along. They are no trouble at all !!!!

    Bangla it is then..........whistling.gif

  8. talked with a chap who bought a condo in patong about 7 years ago for 2.5m baht. 5 years ago the same condos were selling for about 5m baht, today the same condos are selling for about 2m baht. investment? heck if this is the boom then when the bust comes i should be a buyer for a box of air.

I think that sounds like complete BS. That said, location, location etc. Patong is drenched with condos, both for sale and rent, and for most potential residents represents a short term lifestyle option, so why buy?

That said, the investment of say in 2007 compared to an equivalent value of 20% less now, although the baht value might be slightly less, converting back to Euros/UK Pounds/US or Australian Dollars etc now, will actually give a slight profit.

Patong is also drenched in dreamers that believe their condo is worth much more per month than they have ever got! The guy I had a deal with, for guarenteed 18 months, decided to pull the deal as someone offered him THB12,000 a month more for a full 6 weeks! 7 months later his property is still empty & was broken into 2 times - i know the handyman that fixes bits & pieces around and he told me.

  9. Since my post the other day I've watched 2 encounters with these debt collectors.

A few days ago a bike stopped in front of the cops house a couple of doors away from where I'm staying. The cop wasnt home so he asked my neighbour to pass the payment onto the cop when he arrived home. My neighbour refused to get involved. The debt collector was chatty and said they have to pay the cops in each umphur they collect in.

around the same time other debt collectors visited an elderly lady neighbour. That 70+ yo lady's daughter got involved in gambling and owes money to the collectors. As the daughter can't pay they've moved up to her parents. The lady didn't have money for the collectors so now has a huge bruise covering one cheek where they hit her.

I am sure non of the loudmouth tough guy Thai men where around to stop this, hitting a 70+ yo anyone is just bang out of order!
