  1. My service has gone downhill also. I'm on 4MB premier and it's acting like their 4(now 5) MB "indy" service. They seem to be choking my torrent downloads big time. They advertise to use their Premier service for torrents. Of course their tech support is no help. Wish we have True in my area.

  2. Softpedia is not blocked on my end. I'm on 3BB premier in Chiang Mai.

Oh no, not again! I shouldn't have mentioned it, but it gets me riled.

There's other threads on TV dealing with this issue. See this link as an example. There are more. You can do a search for softpedia and you will find more. This is not the appropriate thread to discuss this issue, as it's slightly off topic with the OP. But I'll give you a very quick overview since you seem unaware..

Basically the sub domains (such as http://win.softpedia.com/) appear not to be blocked, but the main domain www.softpedia.com is definitely blocked by the MICT to most people using normal Internet access in Thailand. I'm not saying how you get around this, as it's against forum rules to discuss.

By not being able to access www.softpedia.com prevents you from downloading any software from Softpedia.. It started around last April when the Red Shirts took over Bangkok. Something to do with the Government was trying to stop the Red Shirts from streaming/viewing the 'red TV' (PTV). The stupid thing is, the software which the government was trying to block from being downloaded, are still available on other unblocked sites. Absolute farce! Even though the red channel is no more, the download sites (such a Softpedia) are still being blocked. Who knows when it will end.

It also show the danger of uncontrolled Government censorship. Where just about anything could be blocked even though it not directly against the law or constitution

Sorry to have gotten off topic of the OP. I can see now that I have to be very careful in what I say in my posts.

I'm able to access the main domain: www.softpedia.com through 3BB. No need to use a go around. Am I one of the lucky few? Even Piratebay is back on line.

  3. First of all, I do not wish to start an argument over something else than the core question. I just leave it at that.

It's not realistic that the problem you wrote about had any connection to our problems, mainly because people using other ISP's had no problem connecting to the site.

It may very well have been 3bb's DNS serves as you wrote now, and that's basicly what I've been saying too! I would at least call that ISP specific, wouldn't you?

You shifted from your first post where you were certain that the hacker attack was the reason for our problems, to blaiming it on the DNS server in your second post, so don't tell me about false accusations/declarations.

The problem is solved now anyway, so not much gain from discussing the matter further.

    Agreed.

The reason for the shift was to point out something else that could be the problem.

My first post was to merely point out the fact that The Pirate Bay was changing their servers and it could be a problem with TPB. The attack took place on July 8 2010. The OP was on July 22, 2010 (2 weeks later). The Pirate Bay is like many large websites and have servers all over the world. It could take some time for TPB to resolve the issues across all their servers and gateways and for the others readers to wait for it to be worked out, which appears to be done now. By no means TPB was being intentionally blocked in Thailand as so many people were alluding. So the timing is coincidental and conceivable. We will never know the cause.

The second post was to offer a suggestion as to another solution to look into.

Judging from Phil Conners post and another thread about using torrent downloads from Thebox.Bz, it's looking more like there is some kind of problem exists with 3BB's gateways, which I'm sure 3BB is now working on.

I use TOT and many times have similar issues. No ISP is exempt. Often times, I have to use a VPN to access sites outside of Thailand and it's not because they are being blocked as this thread was alluding. It's a usually a problem with the DNS or gateways. Usually clears up in a few of days. Usually it's not worth the effort to contact TOT's customer support. It seems to go nowhere. Currently, Thailand is going through massive changes to upgrade the Internet in Thailand. All ISPs are being effected. Access problems are usually resolved in a few days.

Hopefully there will be a day soon, which we can have the high speed connections which the 'developed' world enjoys. I have had intermittent high speed connections and it's been a pure joy to enjoy streaming and fast downloads. I would be happy with a consistent 3M connection rather than the less than 1M connection that I often have.

If only something could be done about this crazy attempt to block sites from withing Thailand. I'm still rather 'ticked' that Softpedia is blocked!

    Amazing Thailand!

Softpedia is not blocked on my end. I'm on 3BB premier in Chiang Mai.

  4. There is a small exchange place that sell dollars just down the street from the SCB bank at the night bazaar. Just go south about 20m from SCB(the purple bank) and it's on the right hand side. Great rates. You'll get hammered on the exchange rate if you buy dollars in the U.S..

  5. Ive got one, the 16gb version. I just moved back to Thailand and honestly I'm trying to get rid of it. Ive got a Droid I just picked up and for me it's much better. I had the reception issue when I was in LA but it wasn't often that I expierenced the problem. Overall the phone is great and if it wasn't given to me at the price I got it at, I would of never picked it up. But I'm also not a big Apple fan. A few of my friends here though are in love with it. Obviously it's user preference. If anyone wants to see the phone or check it out, I'm more then happy to let you take a look at it.

Hey it sounds cool, i'd like to ask how much you want to get rid of it? ^^

    Me too!

  6. I'll keep using your service and I'll avoid using any copycats. I know you've worked hard building up your business and I'm glad of the service you're providing. Go after this thief and don't let up.

  7. Hiya,

The shops I asked in weren't even bothered to look at it, I said, 'Phum mee bin doii' (I have the reciept also).

It's Thai gold I bought at an Aurora gold shop down South. Does anybody know if they have branches in CM? Their website is in Thai.

    Cheers.

According to their website, they don't have any branches north of Suphanburi(about 169 km north of Bangkok). Aurora has a good reputation, wonder why they don't want to buy your gold.

  8. I agree with the others hear that having only one caterer and only one serving setup for food was a terrible idea. Otherwise the event was pretty good. The kids really like the play facilities and the miniature golf set. The Chiang Mia stadium made for a nice venue to hold this event.

    My suggestions for next year:

Lower the admission charge and have several choices that sell food; how about, Bake and Bite, Miquels, Mikes, Butter is Better along with Dukes?

Outdoor misting fans for the queues.

More servers for the beverage bars.

    Western toilets with changing facilities.

More booths representing businesses and other entities that serve the expat community.

Two metal detectors instead of one at the entrance.

    Just my two cents worth.

  9. Plasma TVs use the most electricity and generate the most heat. LCD TVs uses somewhat less and generates less heat. The picture quality is close so it comes down to preference. LED back-light LCD TVs runs much cooler and uses less electricity. They're expensive but if you can afford it, go for the LED.

  10. If you used a jailbreak on your ios4 upgrade on a 3G, you might have included multitasking. The wimpy 3G hardware can't handle it. You are able to remove multitasking if you run the JB utility again. It worked for me. No my 3G runs great on ios4.

  11. I renewed mine last month.

You can renew before the expiry date but the new passport will expire 10 years after the new issue date.

You keep your existing passport until you pick up your new passport.

I believe your son must be present to renew but I'm not 100% sure.

You'll be able to renew both passports at the same time under the same appointment. Make sure you tell them when you make your appointment.

Not sure what you mean about evidence of income.

You can pick up your passport anytime after its ready during their Citizen services office hours.

  12. mine is a 3G, i want my 3.1.3 back but how??

Sorry to tell you that you are out of luck with the downgrade. :(

    Hi

Yes i dont know what to do, i am using my good old Omnia now, iphone just don’t work half the time it keep freezing and can’t answer calls, every time when i try to slide it freeze, how can they get away with this, i wish i had read the net before i upgraded, at least my GF did not upgrade yet.

You can do it but you'll lose all your data: Downgrade iOS 4 to 3.1.3 on iPhone/iPod Touch | Downgrade iOS4 on iPhone | Downgrade iPhone

  13. Why does TRIM require user intervention?

What other problems do SSDs have that degrade performance over time?

Does TRIM work on Windows 7 out-of-the-box and reliable? - I found contradicting statements. Anybody knows more?

TRIM seems VERY recommended because it solves important problems with SSDs, at least that's what I understand. Namely slow writes and inefficient wear leveling.

In SSDs, a write operation can be done on the page-level, but due to hardware limitations, erase commands (which are inherently slower) always affect entire blocks. As a result, writing data to SSD media is very fast as long as empty pages can be used, but slows down considerably once previously written pages need to be overwritten.

    [...]

A TRIM command allows an operating system to inform a solid-state drive which data blocks, such as those belonging to a deleted file or affected by a format command, are no longer considered in use and can be wiped internally.

source: TRIM - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TRIM basically allows the SSD to manage its cells more efficiently, therefore lessening the risk of slow writes due to management overhead.

TRIM requires minimal intervention. You must set the storage(controller) configuration to AHCI in the MB's BIOS. After that Windows 7 will enable TRIM when it detects the SSD. To check: run cmd as administrator, enter; fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify, If the response is; DisableDeleteNotify = 0, TRIM is enabled.

I'd go with Intel SSDs,I've seen them around in Thailand. Their SSD Toolbox utility is great. Run the disk optimizer instead of Windows disk defragmenter. Never defragment a SSD, you'll just wear them down.

  14. Hi

It must be a 3GS you have and not a 3G, right?

It's only a 3G. When I ran the jailbreak for ios4, it gives you the option to include multitasking and wallpapers. You can remove these features later through the jailbreak.

Yea, I have one of the thousands of JB iPhones roaming around Thailand.

  15. I installed iOS4 on my iPhone 3G and I included multitasking and Home screen wallpapers. I loved it until the wimpy 3G's hardware just couldn't take it no more. I removed the Multitasking feature and now the phone runs fine.

    I like:

    The wallpapers

    Folders

Easy to turn on/off Cellular Data Services in settings.

    Functional e-mail (finally!)

Listening to music while I'm using another app.(Can't do that now since I had to disable multitasking)

    Don't like:

Still no contact photos in the contact list.

Still no quick / in-app reply for sms.(Why do we have to wait for someone to make an app for that?)

Can't wait to get my hands on an iPhone 4 to check out the other features. On the 3G it's a real improvement.

  16. I'm using the Intel 80 gig SSD as a boot drive and a seagate 1TB HDD for storage. 80 gigs is fine for the OS and a few apps., and yes...the thing flies! WEI score 7.6. The Intel also supports TRIM. Do your research on SSDs first before you build your rig. They do need some TLC but they won't lose their performance with the right settings.

  17. Do they still require a medical certificate for retirement extensions? and would I need a residence letter from my condo? (sorry first time I go this route - got my first retirement visa last year).

I just renewed my retirement extension at Chiang Mai immigration 3 days ago. They didn't ask for a medical certificate. Since it's your first extension, it might be a good idea to bring your blue house book (Tabean Baan)for your condo. I'm assuming you own your condo.

  18. Where are you applying to register your marriage? It's been three years since I married my Thai wife. Since we had to go to Bangkok to to get the translation stamp from the MFA ministry of foreign affairs we decided to register our marriage at the BangRak District in Bangkok. No BS, no proof of income requirement, no tea money, just paid the fee and received the Certificate in a nice blue folder. Friendly service. I've heard that other Districts tend to find something wrong with your paper work and then the problem disappears after some Tea money has changed hands.
