  1. I'm waiting for the iPhone 4S, anybody heard the latest on it's ETA?

Saw some in MBK in Bangkok last week, 24,500 baht. Should be in CM soon.

Don't know when the official release is yet.

  2. This should represent good news, at least for business. In any case, trends should be for heavier traffic for years to come, as Chiang Mai grows and streets inside the Superhighway have but limited abilities. Floods and tourist seasons may vary in their impact, but anybody in a hurry better learn to like a motorbike or find the next small town. .

Yep - simple math. Compare how many cars are sold every year in and around CM (many), and how many roads are built inside the super highway (none).

WTK know a good way to bypass Suthep road? I go from the city to canal road every day there, would love to avoid the mess (even on a bike it's slow).

I love that bicycling has gotten way more popular now, mainly due to the advent of the hip factor of (gorgeous) fixies. Now if CM could build some bike lanes, it would be fantastic. But... that's rather unlikely of course... city planning in CM seems to take a "hands-off" approach :P

doesn't Chiang Mai have bike lanes around the inside of the canals? Doesn't mean the cars don't use them as well, but I thought they did put them in.

    MSPain

Ummm...I thought those are just for decoration.

  3. I have a dream box and true platinum package from a (grey) supplier for 2500 baht per year service. It works wonderfully, and I avoid paying the 2000 baht per month for the service. I think it is against the rules to publish the phone number, but PM me if you would like details. You would have to have someone who speaks Thai to request the service.

    Just remember...card-sharing is illegal.

  4. I'm a citizen of one of the few countries that Brazil requires a Visa for entry (U.S.A.) My big problem is that I live in Chiang Mai and the Brazilian Embassy doesn't process Visas by post. Is there anyone who can recommend an agent in Chiang Mai or in Bangkok (I can always send the required documents down to BKK)?

Any advise or info would sure be appreciated.

  5. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

Now know of four people in Thailand having the same problem; and all 3BB users, so far.

    Any more want to join?

Just to clarify, it's not only The Box torrents that are affected but all other private and public trackers.

Strangely, not having any problems downloading, it's uploading that is giving the trouble.

Downloaded a series last night to test, came in with no trouble.

It's the uploads (seedings) that are having the red arrow problems.

I'm having similar issues too in CM using 3BB. Going through my VPN solves the problem. Maybe it's their way of clamping down on torrents?

  6. RE: You can buy tickets at KTB anytime before 8th November. 100 Baht each adult which is 50% reduction on gate price of 200 Baht. Over 60's only 50 Baht (with yellow book) for ex pats. Absolute bargains I would say.

What is KTB where you can get discounted tickets for 100 baht before it opens?

Also, how much does it cost for a Thai adult and Thai child?

    Thanks

Krung Thai Bank. They have many branches.

  7. Robinson's in Airport plaza sells children's car seats, they usually have one or two at a discount. Also try the I.S. baby shop behind the Big C Extra(formally Carre Four)shopping centre, they have a good selection.

  8. Do you mean that if you buy the AIS 3G SIMM that it's locked to an IPhone4 and you can't just plug it into any 3G phone or USB stick?

I wonder if it has to do with AIS is on 900MHz and True on 850MHz?

Yep, iPhone 3G cannot receive 3G on the 900MHz band only Edge. The iPhone does.

  9. I'm on True's 3G now. Had AIS 3G before. I've found that AIS is somewhat faster and smoother then True Move, but True Move's plans are generally cheaper. Coverage of both includes much of CM proper and it's suburbs.

  10. For US dollars I always go to a small exchange shop on Chang Klan road in the Night Bazaar area. From the Thapae intersection, walk past the SCB bank going south right hand side. About 25 feet past the bank you'll see an exchange sign. Best rates and they always have plenty of US dollars there.

What's the maximum they will let you have - any idea?

I've bought 800 US dollars there before. I've heard from others who have purchased large amounts there too. This was about a year ago.

  12. "While acknowledging that the vast majority of tourists enjoy incident-free holidays in Phuket, he went on to raise the issue of a new “motorbike scam” being reported.

In this newest way to cheat tourists, unscrupulous operators rent out motorbikes to foreign tourists and then arrange for companions to steal them overnight, he said.

The foreigners are then forced to pay the price of a brand-new motorbike, even if the stolen vehicle was old, he added."

This scam is not new, it's been going on for many years. Maybe it's on the rise in Phuket. I always ask if the fee includes insurance before I rent.

  13. Sumalee Jennapa seems to have a good reputation in the property buying business.

Don't email her, you'll wait forever for a reply.

Also, she has an ongoing medical condition and tires easily.......seems to buck up if the business involves big money. wink.gif

    Speaks excellent English.

I agree with you as Sumalee is a good lawyer and has many ex-pat clients

I also agree. Used her several years ago. Her fees were very reasonable.

  14. It's difficult to avoid going through BKK when flying from the US to Chiang Mai but it doesn't have to be all that bad. Thai Air has frequent flights from BKK to CNX, has generous baggage allowances and they usually allow you to check in your bags all the way from the US to Chiang Mai even if you use a different airline for the international leg. Sometimes you can get better fares on Thai Air through a travel agent then their website.

  15. If you open in Pattaya, and it's decent, which word from CM is that you do decent burritos, I'll promise to promote the hell out it! It hurts living in a city without access to one place with a passable burrito!

Totally agree. When I lived in Pattaya, the choices for Mexican food were either expensive or lousy. In CM we have Miguel's, El Diablos and Salsa kitchen. All very good and affordable.

The clientele at El Diablos is mostly young backpackers, families and a few expats thrown in. It definitely does not have a beer bar atmosphere that some have alluded to.
