Went over to Batam / Bintan from Singapore many times for golf. Those visa's really eat up the pages in your passport.

Some fond memories. Not so much for kids to do in Phuket, so this was a go to place.
Who doesn't like insects?

In Brisbaine on my way to NZ. Local paper has 4 night holiday to Patong, with hotel, starting at aud 85. I don't know how the business works, but how can anybody make money at 85 Aussie?

The chinese put backpackers to shame with regards to cheapness and odd smells
Renowned toilet blockers too. They will flush anything. Even the hotel room hair dryer.
Mostly they flush dirty underwear because they don't want anyone to see the stains and are embarrassed and tight to get them cleaned.
Weird bunch for sure.
I don't disagree, but I am now living in China and nobody flushes. It is all dropped into a small rubbish bin next to the bowl.
I think it is gross, so I flush it still. No bum washers within a thousand miles.
Depending on the laundry cost (I know, Phuket is cheaper than other places) it may be more economical to throw out and buy new. I did that in Hong Kong when I was staying for a couple of weeks in a hotel.

Large HVAC expo in Bangkok cancelled. Probably could have been held.
Not sure if lack of exhibitors or political climate or a bit of each.

I flew in and Immigration had 10 lines for foreigners and 10 for locals. Foreign line was 50 deep. Most local lines had a few people. Even if empty, nobody called over. About 1 hr to get through. BTW, this was Narita.

I live in Patong. If Patong is a "shit hole" - I suppose you could say I live in "the annals of Phuket."

Let's hope the US doesn't take this window dressing as a sign to remove Thailand from tier 3.
Many for arrests and jail time and further up the food chain.

Not sure if you get a refund on thai social, but you can keep your medical if you have paid in for enough time. I kept mine and pay around 450/month. I don't live in Thailand at the moment, but who knows in the future.

Phuket Central underpass started December 2012. 850 meters long. Just finishing up now.

I think Prayuth is a good well meaning man and I like a lot of what he says but I dont see much evidence of the locals have been listening, lif seems to go on much as before. I have yet to see any changes in the way society behaves towards each other, perhaps I am expecting too much too soon.
Things take longer in politics than they do in the military as I am sure he is finding out.
More facts and knowledge means less censorship for a start and then a really big job, educating the young so they are fit for the future of Thailand, at the present I get the impression that they being taught what has been taught for years and is now out of date. Prayuth in ensuring that Thai ways and cultures are learnt and remembered must also look outside the country and take note of other cultures and ways, their relationship with Thailand, how the world is changing and Thailand needs to change as well or be left behind, all the learning of Buddhism and chanting mantras will not help one jot in the world of today.

I googled and only about 40 units were sold. The rest were rented for holiday travelers and the owners got
The World - Flag Bahamas 196 m 43,188 tonsAnyone know the name of the big dinghy out there now?
Very interesting ship! A private residential cruise ship (kind of like a floating condominium) with about 160 private residences onboard.
Started a few days ago in S'pore, and will end in Antarctica after stops in Africa, Europe, North America, Central and South America.
Only about 200 passengers.
pissed. If I spent 2 mill, I wouldn't want it either. They purchased the remaining 120 units for 71 mill from the bank. Maint fee is 100k per year plus you pay for eats, drinks, etc... But if they don't sell the units and no tourists, the maint fee will go way up. How much to run a ship with 260 crew for a year divided by 40.

Recently purchased an upgrade to biz class from prem Econ. Happened during online check in. Seemed too good to pass up.
I recently checked with UA and they advised that mileage is based on original booking class. They also refunded me the prem Econ surcharge.
You need a PHD these days to navigate FF miles.
I was also in the US last month and we boarded by how much your ticket cost. Pay full fare and you were on first. Deep discount, last. New to me.

Can I hijack this thread?
How to get rid of pipes banging against my walls? Water pump on the 4th floor, sound coming from the walls of 3rd floor. Everytime I use the water, either 1 minute later I hear a loud "BING", high pitched smash. Then 10 minutes later, another bing.
I checked the roof, it has a pipe shooting straight up into the air without any closing, I would guess that helps when the water flow is stopped and push backwards.
Many buildings will use silent check valves if noise could be a problem. Lots of different types but they are designed to stop the back flow a little bit slower which helps the water hammer. It's not totally silent as you will still hear a click when the valve closes.

Should only happen once. Do you have a check valve on pump outlet side? Prevents back flow when the pump is not running. If you do, maybe it's not working properly.

Tried the wine connection French cider in champagne bottle with cork.
Not sure if it was 750ml. This was a while back. Very enjoyable.

With 99 planes in the fleet 9 of them more than 20 years old (http://www.planespotters.net/Airline/Thai-Airways-International) and more than 80 vice directors (vice presidents?) I'm not surprised alt all. Get someone who actually can do the job instead of appointing retired generals to run the circus.
Cool website. Over the last 2 years over 1/2 of new planes have been leased. 12 out of 20. Plus 3 more 777's that are on order. Last leasing was done during fiasco of 1997.
